Windows 10 related, but I expect that Windows 11 users will be seeing this too.

Is anybody seeing the below message?

This appears after clicking the Start menu, then the user's picture with the yellow dot (which is what drew my attention to it). Is there a way to disable the message? I guess Microsoft don't want me to use a local account.
I do not have this and using a local account.

I am on 23H2 and do have Windows updates blocked as I do not want 24H2 installed.

What the

I have windows 11 on my personal dell latitude 5330

Its been great,

However, i have been hovering around 149GB / 150GB of free space left on the C drive (SSD)

i have not downloded anything today, or over the last couple of days, nothing that would be large, its gone from 149GB to 135GB free without me doing anything

Surely this cant be windows updates? my laptops is updating itself now.. why would windows updates take up 15GB of space? seems excessive to me.

I have found the "System > Storage > Cleanup" reccomendations section, i will use the "cleanup previous windows installations" section which is showing me usage of 17.7GB

not sure what exactly this will cleanup, or if it causes any issues

Going from free space of 150GB to 135GB because of windows updates seems way to high

EDIT: cleanup on cleanup previous windows installations has finished,
I am on 159GB free of space

Not sure exactly what that removed?

Install Wiztree and get a visual view of where the space is being consumed if it happens again or just use it anyway as it's a great tool for finding random stuff left over by uninstalled apps and games.

The new Windows update fixes the USB DAC issues and stuff that the last update introduced:

What's this I hear that Windows 11 24H2 will not support 8th, 9th and 10th gen Intel CPUs?

Scrolling through YouTube I have seen 2/3 videos saying that Microsoft has dropped support for these processor gens

not true apparently, but wouldn't be surprised if Windows 12 did something like that.

They haven't, I'm typing on an 8th gen PC with 24H2 installed via Windows update right now. From what I can gather in the news articles, they've just withdrawn 8th-10th as valid systems for Windows to be preinstalled by OEMs.

I wouldn't be surprised either.

I am running a 9th gen CPU (9700K) on 23H2 without any issues at all but didn't want 24H2 on it

Another reason I hate MS - I'm not rushing on to 24H2 but now the update is available for my devices it keeps putting up the blue dot notification about it even if you hit hide for now, pause or hide updates, etc. it quickly comes back... same with the regularly re-flagging that automatic sample submission is disabled... I have certain settings how I want them for a reason so **** off MS.

I hope recycling centres are getting ready for Octobers deadline because there's going to be tens of thousands of computers heading their way in a little over 7 months.

I've set the target feature update for windows 11 as 23h2 in the registry, and so far so good, I've only received security updates.

While there's still time remaining, I am hopeful that the ESU-bypass will work. If that buys Windows 10 a few more years, then that's good for the environment and everybody using the bypass.

Windows 10 ESU-bypass

Windows 10 customers may extend support for one or three years, depending on whether they are a consumer or business.

Preliminary tests show that Bypass ESU is working on Windows 10 devices as well. This would unlock security updates after October 2025 on systems on which the patch is installed.

The only downside, apart from the question of legality, is that Windows 10 Home updates cannot be extended for more than one year. Devices that run Windows 10 Pro on the other hand support at least three years of ESU updates in theory.
