*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

Lack of taskbar customisation options (quick launch, etc). Even more confusing Settings app (to me, anyway) where you can't even do some of the basics such as setting your default browser with one click. Centred Start menu.

What's to like, apart from the minute increase in speed?

Anybody know how to run a server for Lan connections from wsl/ubuntu, I just need tcp 5201 into the server.
Tried a convoluted way via the method below but it's all a bit of a mess.

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/61002681/connecting-to-wsl2-server-via-local-network
Enable bridge mode

Open Hyper-V Manager as administrator

Select your pc, open Virtual Switch Manager

Select WSL

Set to external network

Select the network card the traffic runs through

Then login to wsl2 terminal and configure an IP address. E.g.

sudo ip addr add 192.168.0.116/24 dev eth0

I need to add that I did get it working BUT the throughput was very choppy speed wise

What a load of guff all that lot was, confusion between WSL.V1 and WSL V.2
netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenport=5201 listenaddress=0.0.0.0 connectport=5201 connectaddress=server address

Then add a port to the firewall

Dunno why anyone is excited for Windows 11 - despite some cool ideas and an aesthetic which in concept is probably what a modern Windows should be it is all the same shambles all over again in implementation and execution, half-finished ideas before jumping onto the next "cool" idea, treating the end user like a product, etc.

Lots of talk about the end user experience while ignoring most of the tenants of what makes for a good quality of life experience.

If it wasn't for most alternatives aren't great, no real options for a broad range of tasks and compatibility for work related stuff (though increasingly that is moving to cloud, Sharepoint, etc.) I'd have left Windows behind long ago - sadly I do too many things where I have no option but to use Windows.

I generally try to be a tolerant and easy going person who doesn't wish ill on people but the developers on this OS have their heads so firmly up their own behinds I really do wish the worst on them.

I won't be upgrading to Windows 11 anytime soon. Happy with windows 10. I will wait for people's feedbacks then think about it.

Why do you consider anything that doesn't align with your own opinion to be 'rage' ?

The points @Rroff has put across for example are legitimate. Lots of things work just fine for the average user, that doesn't mean the product is free from criticism.

Because most of it is just that, raging at tiny almost insignificant changes, claims of "shambles", moaning the icons are 3cm to the right, just doesn't bear up to reality.

I must have missed Rroff's legitimate points, there are none a few posts above for instance, just some ranting, could you link to the post.

A lot is going to depend on people's usage(s) - I'm probably at the more extreme end of the scale but still.

I just bought myself a new laptop and dealing with setting up Windows 10 on it is literally making me want to bash my brains out LOL.

I made some points in another thread - will try and find some of the posts - sadly many of the same criticisms still carry over to 11.

EDIT: One of the posts here for instance https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/posts/34650228 a lot of my anger comes from this stuff never been properly dealt with then they just jump on to the next iteration and the same old problems continue.

To be fair the aesthetic for 11 in concept looks great but yet again falls down on the implementation without a proper understanding of the design language embraced throughout the OS and many areas unfinished and/or losing useful features compared to past iterations despite gaining some new ones.

You and I seem to have a different definition of the word rage then.

Your desktop icons tell us otherwise.

anyway would appear windows 11 doesnt support 4k playback in youtube. so will be going back to 10. latest Nvidia drivers made no difference
