*** Microsoft Windows 11 Thoughts & Discussion Thread ***

So they're going sneak a neural processing unit in to your PC via an update? Cool.
Having a quick look online it can be enabled and running without an NPU. processor is a snapdragon 1 but also states it should work on X86 and X64 processors from AMD and Intel

Like everything these days you take most things on the internet with a pinch (Or bucket) of salt.

If my PC does not meet the requirements for for Recall why can I not uninstall it (rather than disable it) and have to have more unless bloat on my PC that I am never going to use.

Where do you get it from as the 1 via Microsoft is 24H2 now and then your stuck with 3rd party sites and you never know what has been done to them (i know most likely nothing)

Here you go. You can still get older ISO's from MS servers via 3rd party projects. I've downloaded 23h2 using link above and installed no problems. This link was also provided by a mod from Microsoft help pages. See here

LOLs

<snip>

It only actually installs it once but this update still seems to have some issues and has been republished several times due to MS screwing things up.

I have actually noticed that before with some updates, that they'll download and then not install due to them not being compatible. It's almost like the checking if a file needs to be downloaded bit isn't as sophisticated as the install bit or they make a mistake when adding the update file to the list of available updates.

Like it seems they've done with that update for the security platform, someone at MS HQ seems to have flagged it as normal update instead of one that's been superseded so it seem to keep downloading it only for it to fail when it comes time to checking file versions and cert dates.

Rroff/Muphy, bit of a post necro here, but Google / MS support site (lol) have come up short on solving this...

I too am getting the dreaded recurring KB5007651 installation, basically every time I turn my laptop on. Note that the screenshot below does NOT capture every time the update is attempted. Maybe it's only the successful attempts? Note that the version number of something does keep going up, so it does seem to be doing "something"... just not every time!

If you have any ideas, please let me know... it's starting to get annoying...

[Edit] I do also happen to have an HP multi-function printer, if that has some bizarre connection?!

Why do they keep pumping AI in to everything?

As I have said before, I do not want AI crap on my PC but at least you can uninstall Notepad (unless they stop you with this update)

Would love to have the bare minimum OS and on top of that I would pay for it as well.

Exactly this, problem is there would be ways to get it for free, and then MS wouldn't be able to mine and sell your info so it would hit them in the wallet...

I might take a look at Tiny11 or AtlasOS, see how much lighter I can go, or maybe do a bit of research and use something like winutil to create my own image based on LTSC..

Yeah, they make more money from your data than selling the OS which is why they are pushing everyone to Windows 11 and an Microsoft account

Try them out on something VMWare or Virtual box then you can delete them after if they are not what you want or if you have any spare SSDs around chuck 1 of them in

winutil to create my own image based on LTSC..
Not too sure how much less data harvesting is in LTSC, visually it has less bloat but what is going on behind it may not be much less and on top of that its getting a hold of a license for LTSC as well as its not for home users.

On LTSC there is a reduced telemetry option not available in other versions.

If you are the sort of person who buys a £5 Windows key, then you may as well cut out the facade and just "sail the high seas" anyway.

I can't link it for obvious reasons but searching for "Github Activation" will point you in the right direction to both download and fix any issues you might have

Same here that does look useful, as for licences, VLSC as it used to be called, its names changed but the access to licences remains as useful as its ever been..

Anyone found recently that Windows 11 is just not as responsive as it was? like clicking on simple things like closing menus or the start menu. (think a fresh install might be in order)

I really do dislike 11,Wish 10 could stick around for longer but even with say ltsc its only got so long.
