Well duh, I know exactly why they did it.

The 4 boxes together, can substitute for the entire logo, so when you see it, you will subconsciously think "Microsoft".

Purely a branding reason really, like how people see an apple and think of...Apple...

Although it is good that it's cool to hate, because there are good reasons for hating Microsoft and Metro.

The 'ft' does look a little weird to me though with no space.

You know sometimes, people dont like things just because of a dislike for the item in question. It's not always a hidden hate for a corporate giant.

That logo is miles better
