Microsoft's new logo!

Frankly they could drop the Windows 'icon'. Everyone and his dog knows the name and it pidgeonholes the company into the 'Windows OS' realm, when they do more than that. That would have been my pitch at least.

I think they really needed to do this ... they need an iconic brand image like Apple's "Apple".

The four squares will do the job... it's so simple yet it works.

As a branding tool it's a success I'd say

I think the logo is fine and professional. The point is that they're trying to move to something simple, recognisable and something which doesn't look like clip art.

Still the original logo on the MSFT website.

Regardless, I don't see the problem with this logo. RGBY squares are pretty much a trademark and that stupid flag-like version was reminiscent of XP, which looked like a Fisher Price designed OS anyway.

Hell, I'll go out on a limb and say their new logo looks better. Looks grown up. I like it.

It would be "alright" if a media student produced it for an assignment. Considering they probably paid hundreds of thousands for it, it's incredibly boring.

Just...lol.

It's because it's cool to hate on Microsoft :).

They've obviously changed it because of metro (which is also cool to hate, apparently) I guess in an effort to promote it.

I don't agree, this is the windows logo, which is synonymous with Microsoft anyway.
I think it has far more to do with them trying to unify everything into one OS. Everything combined, phone, tablet, pc, email, skydrive, etc etc.

Agreed, apple have it the right way around. Everyone recognizes the logo for the company, they don't even need a logo for individual products. Where no one recognizes the logo as microsoft, they recognize it as windows. Same with android, they recognize it as the Os. Same for most brands actually. How many have the companies logo first and foremost, rather than one product in their range.
I don't think it'll change anything, everyone will still think windows.

Looks like a logo that took 3 minutes in MS paint.
What logo doesn't. Logos are meant to be simple, it's a logo not an art piece. How long to draw a 2d apple with a bite in it?

This one's much better.

It's possible to do simple without being bland. This is just bland.

It's recognizable, it's been their windows logo for decades. It fits in with their whole theme. There is no shading or anything else. It's the modern look, which isn't just a Microsoft look, it's the new in design. Have a look at skydrive, outlook.com, windows8, even the new amazon website, has this new simplistic look.

Why would they go wavey and shaded when nothing in their product range uses that old design mantra. I'm a little surprised the colors aren't more pastel looking.

If you were to present people with the new (Old?) logo I think a lot less people would recognise it compared to people being shown the old wavy looking logo.
