Microsoft's new logo!

If you were to present people with the new (Old?) logo I think a lot less people would recognise it compared to people being shown the old wavy looking logo.

The wavy logo is windows, not Microsoft.
It's recognizable in a square as its a window in a recognizable colour configuration.

That design looks utter turd.

Glaucus has his Microsoft shield out again.

What shield,
I said I don't think it'll achieve anything as it'll be recognized as windows not Microsoft and everything else I said is just about design. People really need to stop with that and read what I said.

I'm actually totaly indifferent to the logo.
Explaining why the wavey logo no long fits does not mean I have a shield on, so have another

Windows 8 is anything but functional.
I have used it for a few days in a virtual machine and I still can't stand it.

It's perfect for people who want simple access to their stuff though. Parents who just want their photos, websites, etc. I'm really tempted to get a touch screen interface with my next setup just ready for Windows 8. Already got a leapmotion unit pre ordered too :p

I will have a mouse and keyboard as the main interface(gaming, typing) but I'm liking the idea of touch screen and hand gestured navigation.

As a lawyer for Apple, I will be launching litigation proceedings. It's too similar. The bezels are about the same as the iphone's. The font could be mistaken for the one Apple uses as well.

Microsoft will be hearing from us soon. We expect to ban all Microsoft products... retroactively!

So why not just adopt the Windows logo as the Microsoft logo? It's a lot more recognisable than the new one.

Is it really that hard to just go to Start > Pictures though or open your Web Browser and click on your favourites list and select the website you want to go to :p?

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. ;)

First 3 were designed by Paul Rand, who was the best in the business. He died in 1996.

Although his logos may be interpreted as simplistic, Rand was quick to point out in A Designer’s Art that “ideas do not need to be esoteric to be original or exciting." His American Broadcasting Company trademark, created in 1961, then used by ABC-TV in the fall of 1962, epitomizes that ideal of minimalism while proving Rand’s point that a logo “cannot survive unless it is designed with the utmost simplicity and restraint.”

Personally, I like the new MS logo.

Well actually it is an old windows logo. Look at the 1995 videos on the first page of this thread.

As I said the wavey, shaded logo does not fit in with new design mantra, that mantra is flat, minimalistic and as I also said is more than just microsoft. Design goes in phases and the shaded, opaque rounded edged deisgns are out and new simplistic designs are in. Again look at amazon for another company taking this new design mantra up.

Why would they use a logo which doesn't fit in with any of their new products. They've all been overhauled, not just windows, to this new design.

Just looking at the 'logo' doesn't give the full picture.

There is far more to it than that, and they've adjusted the brand slightly along with how the logo animates etc. They have caught up with the times and it's a big improvement.

They aren't going to go out and dramatically change their logo or make it anything other than efficient and recognisable because you know, that's what it's mostly for.

It's a good step. The old one was incredibly dated in terms of design.

Maybe this would be more suited to your exceptional taste in design and impeccable eye for quality.

GTFO.

e: side note, I guessed the colours and got them right. Goes to show how subliminal those logos work.
