Mid-Size Coupes

the ST202 GT celica is pretty soft when you want it to be, and its no slouch. I would easily recommend a 5th gen prelude VTEC too.

or the 200sx S14 is set up as standard for cruising and to be a little bit squishy.

Was that 'Merc' and 'Back to basics' in the same sentance?

Surely not?

An old merc (Not as the OP wants) but like a 190e is far more basic in terms of design and without the famous french (will go wrong electrics).

I really do like the 500 SEC!

It's not that bad Fox. My Dad doesn't have a problem with taking his 800 on winding country roads.

No, I bet it's almost as good as a Clio 182.

It'll be better than a Transit, just, but thats about it. It's a huge lardy barge even after a 40+ year old has lowered it on phat 18's :p

:D

It'll show a 182 a few things in the twisties... right up until it flips over or understeers madly on a bend and says 'hi' to a hedge.

Oh... it's not lowered and they're 17's ;) (guessing you're talking about my Dads)

Fox is judging a book by its cover again - have you driven an 800 fox? Have you lowered one?

Here lies the problem. My journey to uni is half motorway, half Welsh back roads. Ideally i'd like something that is good at both really, i think my current car does this quite well but it's getting a tad boring as it simply isn't fast enough for me anymore.

Unfortunately, the Rover just isn't for me. Sorry.

Assuming your curent car is whats in your sig, for your budget you will be pushing the bounderies to get something significantly better thats reliable and won't cost a fortune in maintenance.

Prelude tbh

I've been in a Mk2 800. It was an effortless cruiser but cornered like a van. No suprise, really.

ok its no BMW, but the turbo adds 17s and an LSD so its probably not too bad either.

Old Mercs - I actually love them. But if something goes wrong i think i'd be done for. Also i think most of them are autos which isn't something i want.

Out of the suggestions so far, 406 Coupe looks like a maybe. I'm still keen on the idea of a Prelude though. I'll have to look into them some more.

Looks are subjective - i think my car is much better looking than a Prelude. The only one, imo, that is better looking is the 406 Coupe.

I actually thought about a Cougar but i thought Fox would shout at me :o

Great cars but I just fail to see the point in spending £4k on a T plate Cougar when £2k gets the same Mondeo.

Yea but one has the image of a coupe the other...........Won't be better than a Hyundi Coupe though imo.

I guess this is where I am different to everyone else, I don't think a Cougar really has an image. I certainly dont think wow, he is cool, he has a Cougar.

Does anyone? But the same can be said for mondeos :D amongst other cars. Self defeating by for designers tbh.

True, but then a crashed Metro is better looking than a Prelude.

that is also very true :D

hell, even an e36 saloon is better looking than a prelude :D
