Mid-Size Coupes

personally i'd be looking at 200sxs, as you mentioned in your first post.

Although i would question your need for a motorway cruiser, personally if i had half motorway and half winding country roads i know which one i'd prefer to drive and thus pick a car to more suit that kinda driving.

Having said that i quite like driving motorways in the mx5 - even with the top down its bearable noise under 80ish, unless you want to try and talk to anyone without shouting, just wack the music up :D

or the 200sx S14 is set up as standard for cruising and to be a little bit squishy.

I wouldnt buy a 200sx if I didnt intend to replace the suspension. I had a a passenger ride in one with standard brakes and suspension at Oulton (but 280bhp) and it brought back memories. At first I couldnt understand why he was hesitating round corners and slowing down like he was on his driving test. They are so much better modded.

I'd buy a 406D if I wanted a coupe motorway cruiser at 5K ish.

im looking at 406 coupes myself. i would love the 3.0 v6 se, but im wary of the running costs. theres no room around the engine which shouts expensive maintenance to me. its also running brembo brakes which again sounds expensive. seems a little pointless to go with the 2.0, even in se trim though.

not doing many miles at the moment, in fact it would be sat on the drive 5 days out of the week, but i may be changing jobs in the not to distant future and 25mpg on a commute is going to hurt in the wallet!

i guess for me the deciding factor will be whether the 205 makes it through the mot this year... and even then i would probably just end up with something 'sensible'. 'arrrgh' at saving for a house!!!

how about the fiat coupe? someone on here posted some pics of one a while ago (fox, i think?) that had some really subtle body mods on it (side skirts, i think) and it looked really smart.

Sorry AGW, but rover 800 for this budget? WHAT :D :p

I cant think of anything better for this budget and requirements than an E36 328i Coupe. Ignore the crappy image of the E36, its a very very good car which handles beautifully and has a range of fantastic engines.

Failing that a 200sx, if japcrap is your thing. Again very good cars which have great tuning potential, you'll either love or hate the jap looks and interior though.

Fiat Coupe is out of the question i think, insurance is just too high on the 20v Turbos. I haven't had a quote for a 16v Turbo but these obviously aren't as fast and seem to be a bit rarer.

I've had a bit of a wild card thrown in now. Subaru Impreza Turbo. Just had a quote for £1300 FC. Such a nasty interior but for the performance it offers i'm sure i could put up with it. I know it isn't a coupe but it still has a somewhat 'sporty' image.

It's a good few months until i am in the position for a car change, but this will certainly give me something to think about until then. Thanks everyone so far.

Who was the quote on the Impreza turbo with? Myself and others have always found that impreza's seem to command premiums of around double that of things with similar performance, such as MR2 Turbo's, and mildly modded 200sx's.

I'll run a few more through. I may have put in some incorrect details as i have done quite a few today. And before anyone says, it was not a quote for a non-turbo sport ;)

I assumed it was for a turbo :p Just interested if you fancy posting the company who quoted, wouldnt mind chucking one through for myself. :)

Great cars but I just fail to see the point in spending £4k on a T plate Cougar when £2k gets the same Mondeo.

Cougars are not the same as Mondeos. For a start they are not ugly as sin, quite nice looking infact. They have a much nicer/sportier interior, and the handling is improved, with the chassis being about 20% stiffer.

But the main point, is they don’t have a middle aged family man image to them unlike the Mondeo.

Or you could buy a sports coupe....

Ok well i used Confused originally. I had a quote for £1300 from some no-name company i'd never heard of and one for £1330 from Endsleigh. I just ran one through on Endsleighs site and it came back as £15xx (just lost it on the screen, think it was £1530 odd). Not quite the same but i'd still take that quote as it's reasonable.
