Midweek Football; 27-28th January - *SPOiLERS*

I really am honestly surprised Liverpool have let it slip so badly. It isnt as if they have had difficult games either.
I think its when teams and players start to talk themselves up is when the trouble starts you know. You can draw a parallel that runs from comments like "we are here on merit" to results like "not winning games"

damn you scum !!!! equalising in the last minute ruining my night :(

as for liverpool

they will not win the title and that is a fact...

ill get my coat...

That's not the issue. As Anderson said earlier, we've not put together a run of performances all season, we've just been scraping by.

edit: and Rafa's said Torres + Gerrard were tired.

Torres, maybe you can give him the benefit of the doubt because of his hamstring problems but for the sake of 10 minutes Gerrard could have stayed on.

Im as ****ed off as any Liverpool fan with the way the last few weeks have gone but some of you guys are being hysterical. Had somebody said that at the end of January we'd be 2 points of the lead, albeit after playing a game more than the leaders, most people would have laughed.

@dazza: not an excuse. What andy said was just simply wrong.

Baz, I know you love the Pool but it is that that type of comment that now saddens me. Are our expectations really that low? Come on man we are Liverpool I expect to be 10 points clear at the end of January. Problem is that I've maintained that expectation since last winning the league!

All we wanted at the start of the season was to be in with a shout come May, not 10+ points off the top. Fair enough, this still might happen, but it's seriously hard to see how we're going to be able to turn it around whilst the mancs are at top form.

I'm not being hysterical, just realistic.

Mate im 21, i don't remember us dominating and winning everything. I honestly can't remember the last time we've ever seriously challenged for the league. Even the season we finished 5 points off the lead under Houllier, we were playing catch up. So yes my expectations at the start of the season weren't that high. Simply to be closer than last season, which we are.

You were one of the exceptions.

And have the Mancs been at top form? Other than yesterday and the Chelsea game they've been playing like we were at the start of the season, just getting by.

That paints a very black and white picture though BaZ. Anyone 2 points off the top will always say they are in with a shout. You got to say though than that Arsenal are showing some resillience now that they didn't have a few months ago. Utd despite indifferent form are starting to click and are looking dangerous. Liverpool despite their early season form look like a team going backwards at this moment in time.

He has took a regular albeit not prolific striker in Kuyt and made him nothing more than an average right forward. Liverpools weaknesses have been well documented over recent seasons can any Liverpool fan hand on heart say he has addressed them any great confidence ???

Recently yes, and I'd expect them to continue it over the coming weeks. Saying that, you don't need to be on top form if you're just managing to win every game, 3 points is 3 points.

No idea who David Moyles is but O'Neil had had more money than Rafa has to spend since he took over at Villa.

Absolute rubbish Baz, no one knows exactly how much any club really has to spend, it's all conjecture on the media and fan's part. But regardless, Rafa has outspent O'Neill in that time period.

Surely that just shows how easily things can turn around?

Hopefully this is just a blip and im certainly not going to start slitting my wrists just yet.

He also took at regular abeit not prolific striker in Torres and made him into one of the best players in the world. We can all pick out individual players to prove a point.

Yes it's well documented and you're right they haven't been addressed (other than Riera) but that's a very grey area. Because of one thing or another (out of Benitez's control) we've continuously missed out on wingers (and plenty of other players).

How is it rubbish. O'Neil has money to spend. Benitez has to sell players, even players he'd rather keep, in order to buy players.

Well where on earth did Liverpool get the money to sign anyone under Benitez if they don't have the money? Aston Villa don't have the squad Liverpool do, Benitez can't expect to keep adding to his squad without selling, it's as simple as that. Otherwise you'd have a squad of 30 players all of which could play for the first team.

He has also chuffed around £25m-£30m on Dossena and Keane. He has bough players in the past who are not Liverpool standard, Crouch being an example. You can't polish a turd, make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and all that.

The truth of it is if Gerrard or Torres aren't scoring then Liverpool or should I say Rafa doesn't look like he has a plan B and thats not all to do with the quality of the personnel available

Where have i said otherwise? If you read my post after that all i was saying was that andy's post was wrong and that O'Neil has been given money than Benitez has.

Rafa's usually given £10-£15m to spend and then the rest he has to raise through sales. Villa spent nearly £40m this summer without really selling anybody.
