Midweek Football Thread. Champions League. 29/30 *spoliers*

I thought Song was good last night, they barely had any attacks but what they had through the middle he pretty much obliterated every single time. He gave away a couple of fouls but he was far from clumsy/dirty, and they were the smart type of fouls that Wenger complains about, the ones that break up play but aren't quite a yellow card, it's sort of refreshing to have a player like that in the Arsenal team instead of watching other teams' players doing it week in, week out to Arsenal

Actually, when you stop talking out your ass, I said Scholes was infinately better as a DM than Carrick or Anderson, who were being discussed. Every time last year Scholes and Carrick were a better pair than Carrick and Anderson, Scholes played the withdrawn role in that pair every single time.

AS for not tackling, I can't name a single world class DM who spends his time on his ass, Gilberto, Makelele, Diarra, Vieira in his day, Gattuso and most others spend most of their time on their feet, the job is block angles and SLOWING attacks, its not to over commit yourself and make yourself easy to get pass, here's a hint, someone on the floor with no control of himself is easy to go around, someone standing in front of you, in full control, able to track your runs and get in your way, isn't.

None of them aren't capable of tackling and all will, when needed, but they don't instantly jump to the floor at people, if you think they do, you're blind.

How am I talking out of my arse when it's exactly what you said, unless you mean your talking rubbish which I can fully understand. Scholes is not a better DM than Carrick, what a load of tosh you talk, really sunk to a new level today.

Please tell me where I said anything about spending time of their ass? You said a while ago a DM doesn't need to tackle, you moan Song can't tackle and he's a DM. Just pointing out the incosistencies of your argument little boy.

A Good cm?

At his prime he was one of the best CM's in the world, if not the best.

Even now there are very few players who can match his passing accuracy, fluency and speed.

My favourite player.

Yeah, he is a good CM  Good is a bit generous nowadays maybe!

I agree with above anyway, I've never considered Scholes a DM

He's not at his prime though, back then he was probably the best attacking midfielder in the world but now he's obviously nowhere near Gerrard or Lampard for example.

I'd still rather have Scholes than Lampard, so no its not obvious. Scholes' form this season has been sensational.

Maybe if you'd of said Fabregas, i'd of agreed with you ;)

I wouldn't talk up Scholes performances too much if you're basing your judgement on what you see on TV. I couldn't fail to notice that MOTD edited out not only the yellow Scholes received against Stoke for yet another dangerous tackle but also his subsequent 2 handed catch of an incoming cross. His United team mates must have been expecting him to walk again as they rushed the ref to protest the decision in classic United style ;) but inexplicably although a free kick was awarded for the handball no punishment ensued

His disregard for discipline continually astounds me, makes me wonder if Ferguson has ever brought the topic up with him

Don't think he has quite reached Patrick Veira's level of ill discipline mind.

I've never had an issue with Scholes "disregard for discipline", it's a myth that he is a dirty player he just lacks timing :D

Wouldn't be so sure about that anymore, Scholes has certainly racked up enough red cards to be approaching Vieira territory. :p

Just looked it up, Vieira had 13, Scholes has had 9 red cards in his career.

Pretty scary, since Vieira was normally the one breaking play up, and he was a violent "little" **** in his early Arsenal days! :p
