Midweek Football Thread *spoilers and all that*

Back to the Premier where we belong, top 5 team should not be in the championship!

If we get back to the premiership and play like we did tonight, we'll be straight back down. We were lucky to win tbh as we could hardly string a pass together all night. Was a good atmosphere though, shame I was in the corporate area and not with the toon fans.

Well maybe if you qualify one day, I'm sure everybody will remember to laugh when you get your ass's handed to you on a plate :p

Ramsey was very good, Merida was very good and did a lot of hard work coming back aswell, though went a little out of the game after his yellow which was a awful decision IIRC.

Walcott, god damn it, just awful. Vela has barely played in two years for us, was isolate all night and his first shot was almost his first touch in the game. Theo had plenty of the ball and wasted it every single time and frankly has had a lot more football than Vela. He's a freaking awful winger, has no ability to beat his man, I've said many times, any more than one touch and a shot and he's lost the ball no matter where he is on the pitch. His best performances are as basically strikers, the Croatia game he basically received the ball in the box, one touch, shot, goal. Thats what he can do, I really can't say he can be brilliant doing that, I've barely seen him as a striker at Arsenal. As a winger as someone said he hasn't progressed one iota from the day he arrived, as a finisher he seems to have gone backwards.

I'd far prefer to get Wilshire some more games and sell/loan out Theo, well I'd prefer to give him some games upfront, if he doesn't make it sell him. He's just not a footballer, small, fast, thats his skill set right there. He doesn't even put in much effort, his closing down is poor, defensively absymal. Considering his lack of abilty I'd just like to see him kick it way our wide, miles past the left back and run 30 yards and then head into the box, but he always runs directly into the left back, loses it and stands still while they attack.

Vela looks completely lost in a 4-3-3/4-5-1, he had no support, didn't have a chance to get into the game, barely touched the ball and had few chances, yes he should have done better, but most players who get no service tend to play badly and miss a few chances. He was far better a game or two ago when he actually got on the ball throughout, and poor the game before when again he barely had a touch all game.

Gilbert looked great a few years ago, but seems to have gone backwards since then, he was FAR too easily caught by the throughball, he wasn't watching the guy running behind him well and missed the guy starting his runs so by the time he noticed he was well behind and far to late to catch up, which obviously caught us out for the goal and several other times. Really hope he can improve because he looked so promising 3 years ago and doesn't look anywhere near as good now.

Newcastle are a top 5 team?

Let's look at the last 5 years shall we?

2005 - 14th

2006 - 7th

2007 - 13th

2008 - 12th

2009 - 18th

Now let's compare them to Everton who are a real top 5 team:

2005 - 4th

2006 - 11th

2007 - 6th

2008 - 5th

2009 - 5th

13 seasons ago!!!! Why don't you go back another 70 more years to when you won the league and call yourself the top side in the country?

mock the leagues all time record scorer i dare you.

Hate to tell you mate, but Shearer isn't there to save your arses any more. Stop living in the past and deal with the fact that you're NOT a Premier League top 5 team, you're in the SECOND tier of English football, and you were dreadful last season.

We came 2nd in 92/93, we must be amazing.

im not living in the past, but for a team like us to come up from division one and finish so close to winning the league is some feat. everything started going wrong when teams buying our best players like cole, ginola, ferdinand etc..

im not getting into this so stop it now, especially coming from you dazza who i bet makes ambrosia custard for a living or something :D

Yeah, 15 years ago. Back then the league was a hell of a lot different to how it is now, it was not dominated by the same teams, it was possible for a well-managed side to put in a decent run.. so why the hell are you claiming you're a "top 5 side" as if to say that's where you belong now. Deluded. Seriously, seriously deluded.

As for your second comment, I won't even bother replying to it, it's simply pathetic.

Same, Liverpool had a great side last year, 1 or 2 more signing and they would have been sorted.

Instead the waiter sold one of the best midfielders in the world and insisted on playing Gerrard and Torres when they were never fully fit.

The guy is a retard.

You'll Never Win Anything (with rafa)

Newcastle United fan in 'head in the clouds' shocker!!!!!!!!!!!!

They may only be a few of them but they are always the most vocal. The rest of us non-deluded fans realise we are and have been a mid table team for a while, regardless of the players we have or had. We could have the same players as Barcelona but I bet we'd still never win the league :(

I've always said Newcastle deserve to be in the Champions League tbh.

We've got 45 points already this season so if we hadn't been relegated we'd be top in the Premier League this season (Chelsea only 36 pts) and I don't think anyone can argue with that.
