Funny you should mention the 262..

There's one being rebuilt at the moment to full flying condition. :D

Will take a couple of years, but it's on route. :D Complete with original engines as well.

Simon/~Flibster

there's already one flying.. was at the Berlin airshow, along with the Airbus A380 etc :D

however its a replica, and there's almost no chance of a "original" flying.... there's no way it would get a licence to leave the ground. Those engines was VERY VERY prone to just blowing up due to poor metals that Germany during WWII had access to.

My Fav plane is the A10 Thunderbolt
Triple redundancy in the systems I belive. They are damn tough.

I saw a documentary about those bad boys and they were recalling a story from the first Gulf War. An A10 was strafed by anti aircraft fire and was beaten up pretty badly. When it limped back to base they found that the only thing missing was the seat cushion. The pilot joked it was because he was puckering up! :D

EDIT:
From Wikipedia
The 'Warthog' is exceptionally hardy, with a strong airframe that can survive direct hits from armor-piercing and high-explosive projectiles up to 23 mm. The aircraft has triple redundancy in its flight systems, with mechanical systems to back up double-redundant hydraulic systems. This permits pilots to fly and land when hydraulic power or part of a wing is lost. The aircraft is designed to fly with one engine and half a wing torn off. Self-sealing fuel tanks are protected by fire-retardant foam. Additionally, the main landing gear is designed so that the wheels semi-protrude from their nacelles when the gear is retracted so as to make gear-up landings (belly landing) easier to control and less damaging to the aircraft's underside.
As nails tbh!

I saw the actual one being rebuilt 3 weeks ago.

It will be in full flying condition - already got initial permission done to fly in the US *sadly thats where it's going* with an engine rebuild time of 25 hours between rebuilds. *The company who is rebuilding it only restores to flying condition. They will not do a static restoration at all.*

They are spending 2 million rebuilding 4 original Juno engines as well.

They are just finishing off their 6 year rebuild of a FW-190 at the moment then the ME262 will be in full swing.

Look at the Luftwaffe warbirds in the UK bit in the link below. :D

Anyone see how short the F/A-18 take-off run was at Farnborough? I know it needs to be short as an Aircraft Carrier jet but they have catapults to assist.

I did, and what a terrific noise it made ! :D

Although it wasn't as ear-splittingly loud, the Tornado takeoff was my favorite, just the sheer power and vortices coming off the wingtips as it lifted off.

I was particularly impressed with the Helicopter displays, particularly the Lynx and Gazelles.

must admit allways liked the look of the Mig-21 Fishbed

A PAVN Air Force MiG-21MF flown by Phạm Tuân over Hanoi, North Vietnam on 27 December 1972 was apparently responsible for the only claimed combat kill of a (US Air Force) B-52 Stratofortress in history. The B-52 had been circling above Hanoi during Operation Linebacker II.
