Same here.

Some fine planes in this thread.

I've always had a soft spot for russian jets like the Mig 25 Foxbat, the 29s and the Su Flankers (think I saw a 27 in here earlier).

But my all time favourite, not a jet fighter but a bomber has to be the Avro Vulcan. Sadly we're not likely to see this magnificent plane fly again :(

I'll see if I can find a decent pic

I have to agree with last poster about the Vulcan, I fell in love with it when I saw it an an airshow as a kid. The noise of the Olympus engines was awesome, and it has such a beautiful shape.

Although it may struggle to get a civvy license to be flyable there is 1 being restored by a trust organisation that does occasionally do highspeed runway passes, how the pilot can bare to not just pull back a little on the stick I dont know :(

Im going to be completely different and say I always kinda liked the Delta Dart

*EDIT*
ALso now I remember its name, quite liked the Israeli Kfir...

But in modern combat is there any real need for this? We are in an age where warfare is increasingly done from long-distance missile firing and so on. Is there still enough demand for a jet with good dogfighting ability? Is stealth technology, as seen on the F-22 Raptor, more important than being able to showboat?

Personally i think the art of close up dog fighting a la Vietnam style is long gone. Seems to me that stealth and long distance missile firing is the way to go, i dont think pilots these days are as good as the ones that fought in the vietnam war in the old F4 fighters.

The project got cancelled due to lack of funds, there was a thread about it the other day :(

But its got Clint in it, who would make even the most masculine and homophobic of men paint the inside of their trousers white with glee at the sight of his slitted eyes and stubble.

I like the MiG29 and Su33. Both awsomely fast aircraft and can match the F-15c Eagle (well just about ;))

Love the sound of the A10 too. Very nice aircraft, and deadly when armed up with a few mavericks and MK20 cluster bombs.

Su33:

A10 Warthog,
just a fantastic aircraft 'ard as nails and the chaingun in the nose is just cool. The pilot basically sits in a kevlar bathtub, the design is great, engines are defended from groundfire by the wings and the tail-plane.
Really small though, well, right next to the B52 at Duxford it looks tiny!!

F-15E,
just because I used to play the Strike Eagle games loads as a kid :)

SR-71
Because its just an amazing aircraft all round, increadable looks, speed and just a brilliant presence

Technically the F-117 isnt a fighter, its a bomber, wouldnt be able to fight a thing in the air

OOh toughy!

Jet Fighters = Harrier, Mig-29 OVT possibly SR-71, but thats 80k M3 spy plane :/
Prop Fighters = Spitfire, Hurricain
Jet Bombers = B-52 (for the size) B1-B lancer for the coolness!
Prop Bombers = Lancaster

Plane of all time! CONCORDE! :D Ill just sit at M2 @ 60k feeet and watch you all try and hit me! :p

Before anyone says yes I know it's not a fighter but nor is the SR71 or the B52 or the B1 which have all been mentioned.

To me there is only one plane that can cause the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up, and my whole spine tingle.

I first saw one at a Milldenhall airshow in the eighties and it has always stuck in my mind when it took off turned round came back low (less than 200ft) along the runway applied full power then turned 90 degrees to the vertical It felt like an earthquake and the noise was incredible, the plane then just dissapeared up into the sky on a tower of exhaust a bit like a rocket then levelled out at 10,000 feet and reduced power and all around there were car alarms going off all over.
It was the most impressive display I have EVER seen.

It is of course (as if you didn't already know from the above) the fantastic Avro Vulcan

(I am at work at the moment so can't post a piccie maybe someone else would be so kind..... Cheers in adavance)
