Minecraft - I dont get it

Some people just don't "get" certain games. I love Bioware RPG's yet found Jade Empire a pile of poop.


BUT! this is Minecraft. Everyone should "get" it. If not, burn them....

I don't think it's overly harsh.
 
Is it true that Minecraft has sold over half a million copies yet is still unfinished? That's pretty rare if you ask me, not many devs could pull that off!
 
Being a soldier is a 'job'... Ban all soldiering games!

Being a driver is a 'job'... Ban all driving games!

...ad infinitum. Strokes for folks, for some people gaming is about escapism, and doing something you can't do in real life.

I'll quote this trailer once again because it's such a great way to get interested in the game for the uninitiated.



For people who say Minecraft isn't a game... this is incorrect. You can lose at Minecraft. You lose by dying. I've died loads of times. You are winning if you are still alive. The very aim of the game is to survive as well as you can.
 
I cannot really explain why I like it.

I bought it ages ago and never really gave it a chance, but getting bored of playing the same game every night I thought I would give it a go.

Never knew building stuff would be so interesting.

The fun is in mining and building and the community. The last game I played like this was Animal Crossing on the GameCube. Whilst this visually very different, it has much the same idea, just all your neighbours are real people.
 
The people behind this game must be laughing at the money they are making from such a simple yet brilliant idea!


I've not played it in more than a year prolly - never did buy it but did enjoy playing for a few months back when it first appeared!
 
I've only just got into MineCraft and it's amazing. Me and my brother have built a castle with towers going into the clouds, a main hall which I decided to give a glass floor and then dig down to bedrock (took 3 days), a monster trap and we are currently working on a 100 x 100 block pyramid with an underground city beneath.

Pointless? Yes. Brilliant? Absolutely.

Nice to know you got into it, would be good to play with you [errrm] if you ever get on the OCUK server.

Here's one of my earliest creations on the old OCUK Alpha server [RIP]. It looks very basic now but it's mostly an accurate representation of the house.

I was being sarcastic, the shots look amazing, The texture pack makes it look awesome.
 
Damn work, I wanna go home and play now.

I guess the only thing that is stopping me getting into MC personally is it feels like a lack of 'community' on purely my own behalf/doing, If i could find someone who wanted to undertake a project with me on something, i'd be playing religiously. :)
