Minecraft OCuK Forum Members Server Thread

ooo the current spawn location/map on the server represents an excellent opportunity for a multilevelled/varied an interesting spawn city built out of (and into) the cliffs, arches, mountains and caves.

I have to say the current map is one fo the best looking I've seen, there is a small and growing forest fire where a natrual lava stream has come from a mountain and touched the trees.

but if gars has saved it we could get there quickly and /ex/ block it off/cut it off when the world is reset.

So after seeing the new world i have to say Yes (feel bad for the all work gars went to on the compromise though :o )

There's a good amount of coal up on the surface/cliffs near/around spawn, and a few caves and even a few blocks of iron on the surface in the spawn.

haha tefal, nice cliffs, i'm revving the bulldozer :p

why?

You can make so many awesome things into the scenery rather than just a dull flat square.

Rail station/shop or the town hall suspended under the big over hang with glass walls + floor (aside from working areas) to fit in with the glass tubes for rail paths, bank/ some other major building could be built into the remains of the water filled cave as it's mined and expanded (maybe a communal storage facility or furnace/workshop room.)

Player houses can be nestled into nooks in the cliffs and built to blend in/accentuate the soundings.

Maybe a community S1 eden project style thing turning that water fall and pond into a nice garden/feature, expand the arch into a decorative bridge etc.

Rather than just bulldozing it all and having 20 bland cubes.

but it's not a nice clean layout, i think as a community project it's a fantastic idea and something i'd love to be involved with but i really think spawn, the area where new players start, should be clean, clear and well laid out, easy to understand and navigate. being well laid out and planned also makes it easier to be mob free which is something we really need for a spawn area, instead, what we have currently (the unplanned and organic) is a nightmare to navigate around, i never use the spawn area as it's cluttered and claustrophobic, i don't know what direction my buildings are in and i don't know what any of the buildings around me are for and i don't know what is in each direction. we can have cliff town 500 blocks down the tubeline, an additional branch of garsda superstore, as well as a station terminal etc etc.

i'd also like to do a shimizu/'Ziggurat' styled city, but i don't think it's suited to spawn.

But no one can use the buildings in your spawn plan for the simple reason they can't mine there.

With the houses that close together people can't really dig down without running into each other or if you put a depth limit in then again they can't mine.

So after the first day when people realise this you'll be left with a collection of abandoned half finished wooden/cobblestone cubes that'll end up deleted or as mob spawners as people quickly leave to start their mines.

working on a different idea as i type.

For a spawn point I think we should have a central building for some stuff. Then instead of the cubes being houses just make the essentials, shop, station, etc etc.
