Minecraft OCuK Forum Members Server Thread

I like Vincent's idea for a town spawn point, however rather than having a fixed layout for the buildings, a few rules should be set and players are allowed to build their own houses.

The main road(s) would be already laid down to give a basic template.

I'm sure a lot of you remember the City server we had back in sandbox mode, that worked great and we could do the same with a more olden-style theme.
Would be a lot more organic and fun in my opinion.

ta.

this was my idea, the main roads would be used to mark out plots and any building that could be built in that plot would be designed and built by the person whose plot it was, all it needs to do is fit inside the plot and be well lit to prevent mob spawns. think of the plots as allotments.

there would be nothing to stop you using your plot as a wheat farm, or having a cobble machine on the ground floor with an apartment above, what ever you can get to fit in the box, say 16x16x40 (ball park figure).

Guys we still don't know if there's going to be a reset!
sorry, that could possibly be seen as a bit short. what i mean to say is that there is no harm in planning for the future, there is a high likelihood that at some point the server will have a restart, why not prepare for that?

I know, just pointing out that a reset may not happen in the short term :)

how short is short though? there have been 2 (am i right?) since this thread started in october that's only 5 months, not a long time.

i think from what gars has said (and he's more than welcome to correct me if i'm wrong) it seems that if there is enough support for a reset and if there are plans to use the server after a reset then he will be more likely to consider one. i'm merely helping to promote the idea of a reset and drum up support for one by helping provide community aspects that people can be involved in as well as a clear and organised spawn with the infrastructure built in for future community projects and sites of interest.

I'm all for a reset myself and an organized spawn. We had a new world earlier for a bit and I had great fun getting setup. Now back to the original server file and I just have no motivation to build anything like I did in the new world.

I can't get on to see what its like now, but when I left it it worked normally in both directions as it was before.
The intention was to add a switch that could be activated to change the track so that i could be redirected to my house, but I haven't made any progress in making the track change yet.

As I say the 'main line' was all working as before when I last left, is that not the case now?

There was track missing just after the bend, I assumed you'd taken it to use for your link. Thinking back it looked like a creeper may have blown up, did you set any off?

Certainly sounds like nick, he usually destroys things I make "accidentally" with creepers.. :P

But seriously, it was all working when I last saw it. I used my own bits of track didn't take yours.

Oh thinking back myself... are you talking about up that hill after my 'bend'? I noticed there was a lot of track missing up/on that hill, and that was gone before I even started working on my 'bend'. I don't believe that was nick though..

Ah no worries, i borrowed a bit of your track to repair it as I had none on me and no iron to make any. Will hook you up with some more.

Thanks. I dunno what happened to the hill section. I went up there before i started my 'bend' and there was a load of cobble stone drops on the floor whcih was weird, and also a load of glass drops on the floor, which is even more strange as if you break glass there is no 'drop' from it..

having taken on board criticism but also with the intent of keeping the clean layout i've made some significant alterations to my proposed 'spawn town', it is now much less symmetrical (one line of symmetry as opposed to essentially 4) and is now in 1:1 scale

i've deliberately left areas undeveloped as it allows for community work inside the walls as well as outside. i've added business buildings for those entrepreneurs among us who feel they can set up a trade that the shop can't provide. on top of this i've redesigned the bank and station to make them more interesting shapes to break up the blocky nature of the spawn area. in terms of transport the only way to leave spawn after completion will be via the rail network, internally the roads will be lit by 'lamp posts' on either side of the road.

and here it is;
