Minecraft OCuK Forum Members Server Thread

The job is yours, I will set the price for the cheapest & highest priced item & you can work the prices around thoses. will do a new post firday if i have time.
We will no longer be using OcUKs to trade with the new name is 'cobble' :eek:
Will explain more friday.

Sounds good to me! Looking forward to further updates :)

right, finalised the ground level plan, this includes the outer walls, clay=halfstone, i've read mobs can't spawn on halfstone and, even if they can, halfstone looks better than cobble;

spawnplan5-1.jpg

hopefully that's legible, buildings are in the same position as in the previous spawn plan, but the shapes are nicer (imo).

the plan will be to construct the foundation first (ie the contents of this image) and we'd build the shop and town hall(simultaneously, possibly shop first), followed by the station, lastly the bank building as this is basically just for show, the vaults will be the main part of the bank (and underground), i figure the above ground bank can house some nice water features, and maybe a 'library' and 'gallery' in the east and west wings respectively.

the foundations require; 1032 dirt, 5247 half stones, 896 cobble and 626 refined cobble (does this exist or is it just my imagination?)

jeeeeeeeeeeeeez, that map is massive!

Even if we just had the right-most part, and ignored the entire 'tail', it would take us ages to fill it. How big is it?

I can't get on the server, but the islands at the 'head' of the map look like good candidates for a spawn. The sand and water could be developed into harbours, underwater homes, lighthouses, boats, etc, and there could be a diverse travel network in each direction.

There's also a bit in the top-left that merges with sand and forest that is quite flat and could also be developed into spawn.

If you follow the map down, past the snowy bit, there is another stretch of grass that is also a potential candidate. I quite like the mountain after it that has a waterfall, looks like a nice area.

My only concern here is the size, I think it is unnecessarily big. I think it will be a long time before resources become scarce and I'd personally rather develop and build up an area less than 3000 x 3000 than have stuff scattered all over the place - I have a feeling that all the unused land causes nasty lag and unnecessary server load too.

There's a really nice example of a server who did an awful lot in a small space and it looked fantastic, I'll try and find a picture.

Edit: Looks good vince, I'll be there to help laying the foundation as well :)

Edit2: Here's the picture - this is from the Penny Arcade server and I think it's fantastic :)

yeah...for the foundation...:o

haha true :P

I only just realised that you got rid of the housing plots, which is a shame as I was planning something for the 16 x 16 area. HOWEVER, now I can actually do something different and make it much bigger so it's not all bad.

Exactly how big is the spawn wall going to be? I know you need one to protect from creeps (fingers crossed they don't spawn inside...) but if it is too big it will look a bit like a fortress which I don't think really fits with your idea. Just curious :)

3 high is adequate as to stop creeps climbing up i think.

thing is with 3 high you've got to make sure no one walks on top of it.

because they will be low/close enough to set off creepers and then there will be a step in the wall spiders can climb.

iiirc it's done in chunks of 300 blocks so if no one is in one it's not doing anything.

plan is to have the tube system run through the wall, the tubes will be 7 wide (to hold two tracks and a walkway and space for lighting) but need only be 5 high, if they start 5 blocks off the ground level and if they're allowed room for two to pass inside the wall then a wall of 10-15 (maximum of 20) high should suffice.

edit:

tube cross section;

the centre 'clay' block is representing a half block, the blocks either side will have the track placed on them and the blocks either side of them will have a torch on it (represented by the lava block from 'minecraft structure planner') which need only be placed every 4-5 blocks.
