yeah i think in the dwarf city we might be better off using a canal system for personal transport and only use short runs of minecart track connecting whatever our current mine location is and the storage rooms the remove it and move it as the mine is moved so it can transport the storage carts.

Apparently if you use "sneak/crouch" while in a boat it wont break on crashing but we can also use small amounts of the slow/soul sand bought from the shop in docks to make them safe from crashing.

that way we'll have more iron for tools, weapons and armour (we're dwarfs after all not these commoners using stone and leather :p)

I think we'd be best with a simple flat water (non flowing) which will take more time to fill but simpler over all and can go in both directions and have junctions etc.

But you can make a more complicated one that flows with locks etc but that might be too big and is only one way and it only saves you not having to press W for a while :p

Just remember that with minecart tracks at least initialy it may be an idea to plan for using a old style booster until we get enough gold to take advantage of the minecart mania style boosters.

The lack of being able to repair tools means that my idea of creating a huge mine right at the start of the new map to get resources for everyone will be bit of a no go. Using stone tools for digging huge mines takes AGES. It may not be very efficient but I'll have to look into TNT mining.

this is the sort of layout for the entrance stairs i was thinking of.

gold is lava,
the iron is halfstone steps
the smooth stone the smooth stone tunnel wall
the brick would be a set of double double doors, and the cobblestone would actually be smoothstone pillars which match up with the ones on the walls to make arches over each stair set.

the lava would flow though gaps in the pillars as it goes down.

As the whole floor is 1 half block of half stone there's no risk of mobs spawning so the light from the lava will be for decoration/visibility (and in keeping with the orzammar /dwarf theme) and as there's no wood no risk of fire, asnd we won't need a mroe ugly torch set up.

Also hopefully roof will be high enough that it's shrouded in shadow from the low lava light.

on a quick look this will fit in ok with that big shallow cave arch width wise so will look quite cool nestled in the bottom.

And better still as the whole thing is a large set of steps only 3 buckets of lava needed to light the whole thing from top to bottom :p

If anybody wants to fanny about in Beta, my old server is still running on :

Running the latest Minecraft server build so you'll need an updated client to run it. Started a new world too.

Btw, what does hey0 do anyway?

It's a server mod that quite a few admins and hosts use because it makes it easier to administrate the server (add mods, restart, add people to whitelist etc) as well as allowing lots of plugins to be used (e.g. being able to /tp /warp etc).

Multiplay, who host garsands server, rely a lot on hey0 because it integrates with their clanforge control panel for Minecraft servers. In short, they won't upgrade their servers to beta until hey0 releases a beta version of his mod. Sure, you can run the servers without hey0, but Multiplay don't like that idea as it ruins their integration and generally makes the server less secure (no protection from admin, no whitelist and so on).

Hopefully we'll see it updated before the New Year, but I really don't know.

Windle - I might hop on your server at some point to try a few things out, it gets lonely building in single player :p

There's a built in whitelist and admin(ops.txt) list with minecraft, doesnt need hmod.

Sure, you wont get any warps, tp, shop, etc, but not the end of the world.
