Minecraft OCuK Forum Members Server Thread

There certainly are upsides and downsides to it. People seem so spread out now, its like lots of single player games on one server.

The emptiness and strict ruling of spawn is kind of its own downfall.

there has to be a compromise and it goes back to something I've said all along - right back to 'S2' - on that server we had a great spawn area. it was varied but thing fitted. there were gardens, trees, pools, all sorts of buildings and everybody could build anything they wanted, but crucially everything was easily accessible thanks to the network of paths that we all maintained. This is something i was keen on carrying on with on the last server - i built a large majority of the overground and underground path network around spawn (after a lot of the buildings were already in place) which whilst not brilliant, it did make things accessible. However people got tired of the crazy buildings and squabbled over space around spawn. That, and it wasnt designed with mobs in mind.

The answer I believe is to finish spawn, make it the grand entrance it should be. and then build smaller, possible themed towns around the area, similar to spawn on the old S2 (id love an old western town!) it can be done, it HAS been done before.



on that note, has anybody got a copy of the old S2 spawn available for me to D/L ?

Tbh the fact the spawn is inside an ungated wall makes it so much more annoying than any of the ol,d spawns, takes the **** having to either build some steps or find a ladder every time you want to get out.

absolutely. when my plot is finished i'll be building my own safe tunnel in to spawn.

Evening I am having a Holiday I need someone to take over the running of the server.

You will have full admin power you can do what ever you wish to the server
You can add what ever mods you like you can chase up to find out why the mods are not working.
You can look at the server health logs to see if everything is ok.
You can pass this info on to players when the server rolls back, but you will still get questioned as to why the server rolled back all tho you have told everyone the logs say it was not your side. Like you are lying to them.
You can spend all your free time doing admin work & never have the time to build anything and play the game yourself.
You can keep on being asked when is so and so mod going to be working. sometimes you will ask yourself why the players cant find out there selfs by looking on the mod makers forum.
You can keep on telling the players that you are in fact trying to fix the lag at spawn but you having to keep on stopping to tell players that you are trying to fix the lag at spawn.
You will keep on being asked when the shop will be up all tho you have already posted on the forums that its on hold, but you are stll asked.
You will be asked how do I get a vault all tho its also posted on the forums on the 1st post of the thread.
You will ask yourself how much are these players playing to play on this server
You try oh you will try to get players to take contol & lead
Theres more but no need to go on.............

You have no idea the feeling I get when the game crashes its a feeling of dread I am thinking please dont lose the players items or there work its not a nice feeling, this is due to the fact I do care.
Nor will you understand the feeling I get when I find out the players have lost items or work or both.
Then I get ask what happend, the first thining I always do is look at the server logs. I wish I could say I feel better when server side the side I pay for shows no crashes & its still in fact running.
But I dont feel better as I know next comes the questions.... did the servers crash ? not my side no.
Have you looked at the minecraft forums ? cant as they are down.
So is that why ? no as I am told its not the same host.
Then I see about the same time the server crashed notch updated his blog could he have done something to the servers at the sametime ?
But what I really really dont like is the feeling that when I say server side my side everything was fine the server never crashed I get the feeling some players think I am lying.
But anyway who ever is the replacement will be able to see the logs as they are saved & will see that everything was ok with the server & it never crashed.
Why do some players also find it so hard to get into there heads that this game is in beta ?
So I would like you to work out who is going to be the replacement the server is paid up till 07/02/11.

If its better I can do a world save & upload so you dont need to use this server if your not happy with it.
Just upload it do a new server I know maxilive has done this so it does work.

This is just no fun anymore
 
If you want gars, i'll take over the whole lot including paying for it if there's a way of transferring it within Multiplay.

Still paying for my own server so won't make much difference if I just swap it for this one.

Gars. Firstly thanks for paying and running for the server. You've done a fantastic job of supporting it so far.

However, may I suggest you still carry on and enroll 2/3 other people to help out. It may make your life a bit easier...

It would be a real shame to lose you.
 
Garsands, please don't leave the game bud. The server just wouldn't be the same without you.

EDIT:

This maybe a very daft question but do we need all of these mods ?

I remember in the S1 and S2 days we managed pretty well with not a lot. I spent most of my time in S2 with You, furburger, jmiller etc and speaking for us, we never had any problems such as now.

You know I'm always around and willing to contribute what ever I can to help out and aid the Fantastic job you have done so far. As I have done from day 1 !

Lets get it sorted mate.

Gars you've done an amazing job and on behalf of everyone thanks for not only paying the immense out of money for the server but thank you for being just a great hard working admin. I'd be really sad to see you go. Just take a break if you ain't finding it fun. Most people ain't paid **** so they can't complain to you if their beta game isn't working properly or they lose some stuffs.
 
i'm quite new, and may possibly get banned cos i settled a score, that's why i haven't contributed in a £££ kind of way.



i might though if i'm still not banned in a few days lol
 
thanks for your hard work mate, it cant be easy trying to keep everyone happy, what if we did without thevaults etc, would that make your life easier?

Sure we can all hide a chest(s) somewhere
