Minecraft & hMod Update
Dec 04 2010 14:20:34 by Deehem
We've now rolled out the latest Minecraft (0.2.8) and hMod (131) update. Please restart your server to pick these changes up.

The 0.2.8 changes include:

Added /kill command. Does 1000 points damage to the player
Did some patching client side to prevent duplicated entities
The join server page now remembers the port as well as the ip
Fixed a bug where joining a server on a specific port caused the client to forget all keybindings
Added lakes and rare lava pools, both on the surface and randomly in caves.
Fixed a crash bug when destroying the vehicle from under a player
Players connecting to a server or respawning are invulnerable for three seconds

Ah, me and aypez lost all our stuff in a lava accident. Taking donations of diamonds and/or coal :D

We did find an enormous network of caverns with 3 or 4 monster spawns.

*cry* lost all my stuff to lag for the second time today.

Still, my ubermine(tm) is taking shape nicely, and the pirate ship is nearly done... except for a severe lack of wool for the sails =P

Ah, i'm sorry about that...lava really sucks sometimes. If you want me to replace anything, just shout, although I don't have an awful lot either at the moment :p

Had good fun exploring those caverns for a few hours though!

Is the server down?

Should be up, I just came off it.

Would I be able to get on the Whitelist please?

Just bought this, and find it very addicive for some unknown reason!

Wow.... what's everyone doing up at 9am on a Sunday morning?!

Just tried to connect "the server is full"

lol XD

How many slots does it have again? 12?

Also I have an idea for a big project too.... I'll spill the beans :p

-------------
PROJECT MIDDLE-EARTH

Objective: Create a 1:1 scale Middle-Earth as seen in Tolkien's works and the LOTR series.

(I know this has been done before...but that shouldn't prevent us from doing it too!)

I figured we should create it and follow the fellowships journey. For example, start off with Hobbiton, then the house where they meet Aragorn, then Rivendell and so on. This way we can cover all the major areas and fill in the gaps later.

Why Middle-Earth? Well, it is PERFECT for Minecraft. Think about what we could do with Helm's Deep, Mines of Moria, Mordor, Mount Doom - with a combined community effort we could probably pull it off!

Obviously we'd have to delegate tasks, and maybe have some sort of 'office' at each area so we can keep track of what needs to be built. Rather than have people do separate bits, I think we should work our way through it together e.g. do Hobbiton to a good standard and then some people can move onto the next part while others make it aesthetically pleasing.

Might need to watch the films again, and post some screenshots in here so we have a good idea of what we need to build. We also need to go very far from the starting area and find some hilly area to begin work on Hobbiton. We can each have our own houses too! Also we'd have to find a mountain range with a snow cap, although I have no idea if that would be possible...

The other idea I had related to this, was to make giant statues to 'mark' each area. The statues would be of the key character at that point in the story. For example, Hobbiton would be Bilbo Baggins and Moria would likely be Gandalf, due to his sacrifice at the bridge. Likewise, we could create the eye of Sauron in the distance.

Obviously I appreciate that not everyone is into LOTR (I'm not the biggest fan either, I just know of it) but just taking a look at some of the structures and key parts of Middle-Earth should be enough to convince people that it is a worthwhile project.

Anyone interested, or have any other ideas? I'd love to get a big server build going :)

apeZ that's a great idea. God knows how much lag the server will get if we explore out that far though. And garsands will cry every time he tries to do a render.

How about getting a few people interested in it to donate to a separate server for the project? That way we won't be potentially destroying the current server with lag.
