Minecraft (online Lego essentially)

Could add a couple of overclocks to the extractor - 5 should be quick enough.

the problem with overclocking on minecraft is that your energy consumption goes through the roof. the example on the technic pack wiki tells me that 8 overclocker upgrades make a machine run at about 17x normal speed, but consume more than 43x the EU.

since i only have an MV solar array and 8 windmills in my non cheating base i really cant afford to have a bunch of machines taking up that much power.

perhaps when i get a couple of nuclear reactors i might start overclocking, but right now the induction furnace equivalents are perfect for me

geothermals are the way to go

i kinda started in a snow biome :(

well, its snow one way, trees another way and ocean for the rest. no decent lava sources within half an electric jetpack worth of charge (600m)

i'm quite happy with my MV solar array and windmills though, and i'm happily ruining the landscape with the biggest quarry i could make :D

Anyone still playing this regularly? Is there a massive clan you are all in?

I'm tempted to try this... Can you build a pirate island?

There are still lots of people playing it, yeah :)

The "official" (though not really official) server is hosted by me and you can find details of it here. This server runs a more vanilla Minecraft experience and is probably the lowest hassle to join and with a higher playerbase.

However, if you would like to experiment with several client side mods that add interesting functionality to the game then the "unofficial" server hosted by Oxygene might be of interest to you. As said, this will require modding of the client but the flip side of that is that you'll have more crafting and automation options. Details of that server can be found here.

I am looking for a "Player Compass" or a plugin which tells you which direction each player is in when pressing the tab key/player menu.

if that makes sense?

Is only for use on a server for a few friends.

Please could someone help me out with a quick question on texturepacks...?

I'm currently using Maraxos LP Realism HD pack which I really like - the chap who put this together has made a cracking job of it in my opinion - but I'd like to change out the torch for an animated one from another texture pack (KDS Photorealism).

Now, I can see how to change static textures using Minecraft Texturepack Editor but this doesn't work for animations - is there a way in which I can transfer animations as well as textures between packs?

Thanks in advance

TC

What happened to rivers? I remember Notch saying they would be added around 1.8ish, maybe but i haven't seen any...
my technic base is right next to a river, albeit a partly frozen one because its on the edge of a snow biome

speaking of technic, i'm getting really *insert explicatove here*ed off with ogres. even though i'm inside my lovely new house and they are outside they will see me through the wall and smash their way through. i've had to fix the damned thing three times today because of them barging in uninvited. i guess its time to make some elaborate traps that wont spoil the lovely jungle biome behind me

also, have you seen how much it costs to make a HV solar array. when i worked it out i was like
your looking at over 5000 refined iron, ~3000 redstone, ~3500 copper ~6000 rubber, ~2000 tin, ~1500 coal and a bunch of other rubbish
its a sodding hefty price to pay for 512 EU/t when its sunny

nice! have you considered using logistics pipes?
i cant remember if they are on tekkit but they are certainly on technic and could make the industrial diamond maker a hell of a lot faster and smaller

I've just had a swift look at the logistics pipes and they look excellent, I'll probably give them a go later. Cheers for that.

not a problem mate :) have a look at direwolf20's tutorials on lgistics pipes. that, combines with a bit of messing around taught me everything i know about them. they are so useful for automating things

in my survival non cheating world i have a massive logistics pipe network that can take the output from my quarry, get all the ores macerated/burnt/compressed/whatever, then sorted into whichever of the ~20 alchemical chests i have for items. i also have ~40 automatic crafting tables for variaous things. i also have a request pipe that will make anything that is possible from my supplies or automatic crafting tables and pipe it right back to me

the stuff at the back is just a power supply i hurriedly put together (HV solar array, MFSU and some transformers so i dont blow up the machines)

i've just had a quick go in creative mode and i've just made my first (industrial) diamond using the logistics pipes. its so much more compact than the pipes + engines method. the only worry i have is the logistics pipes trying to overfill my compressors.

*edit*
here's the diamond maker :)
industrialdiamondmaker.png

to get an industrial diamond you use the request pipe on the far right above the alchemical chest to request however many diamonds you want. it will then pump the diamonds into the chest beneath it when its done

the crafting pipes above the machines and automatic crafting tables basically replace the role of the chests, engines and wooden pipes, requesting all the supplies they need from the left hand alchemical chest, popping them in the machines then taking them out of the machines and back into the pipe network to go wherever they have to go next

*edit 2*
Cheers! No I haven't, I'll research them and let you know how it goes. I've got a hold load of stuff set up on my technic world so if you want to see anything else let me know.
i'd be very interested in seeing anything you've made with thaumcraft, because i've barely looked at that mod

just seen that logistics pipes arent in tekkit yet, only technic :(

*edit*
perhaps requesting 11 industrial diamonds wasnt the most sensible thing in the world... it may have overflown a bit

cant seem to get the logistics pipes to work with the ordinary macerator and compressor, the stuff just gets spat out the top really quickly and an obsidian pipe wont suck it back up :(
guess i'll stick to using the energy condenser to get my diamonds then

Dude that stuff looks awesome! I'm trying to do it myself but for some reason I can't access the gui for any of other pipes...I've tried using the wrench but it doesn't allow me to, the only GUi I can get to is the one for diamond pipes, but that's not helpful! Help...I would love to replicate that system.

I'll have a look at thaumcraft.

you need the gray wrench from buildcraft to get into the logistics pipes GUI.

also, that little contraption is nothing serious, heres some pics of my survival map i was talking about in my other post:

one side of the sorting room:
minecraftsupplysortingrightside.png

(well, this was taken in the access tunnels with my piston powered pipe covers open)

the auto crafting room:
autocraftingtables.png

(there's also a couple of furnaces, macerators and compressors against the wall i'm standing on

and the most useful thing in the world, the request pipe. if my supply room has it or my crafting room can make it the request pipe will bring it to me:

the inventory dump switch is just the switch for an electrical engine to extract stuff from an alchemical chest and shove it back in the network to be sorted. its far more convenient than putting everything in the right place manually

i also have a couple of far away bases connected to my network by teleport pipes
