Mini PCs

:)

Sorry fellas for the confusion. I am actually after a mini PC, the portable ones.

Any suggestion on good brands?

AMD Trinity APUs are tiny. They nothing on ARM CPUs though

OP I think you might need to restate your question :)

Do not be tempted by Packard Bell or Advent. They are all turd

Do you want a ready made store bought PC or do you fancy building it yourself? OCUK forums has rules against linking to other computer/component sellers btw

Thanks!

I would love to build one myself, however as it is a small unit, I might have issues knowing the right specifications to put together in comparison to the standards PCs.

Does OCUK sell them by the way? and are you suggesting the ready made ones are not really worth it?

It's true you probably can't build as small a PC as some of the off the shelf products, as they use purpose made chassis and non standard components. A home made ITX would be my choice, as building/tweaking is half the fun!

cheers for the link. I am quite impressed with the one that comes with i5, its a bit pricey though but worth it I guess. Can I upgrade after purchase..hard disk etc

I thought as much. can you shed more light on the ITX please (in terms of tweaking and building)?

Good question Brennen. To be used for 'light' game plays and Adobe applications but majorly running simple applications. That would be the peak of usage.

Marine, thanks. Thats a good price but I am actually surprised no information is being provided about the HDD capacity/size, thesame goes to the graphics spec. I have search on google, same results.

Something with an AMD GPU would be good, for OpenCL acceleration of the Adobe stuff. The A series APUs have both a CPU and GPU on the same chip

OCUK don't sell this :( The CPU portion is fairly weak, but fine for everyday use IMO. Intel ITX boards can host up to an i7 quad core so there is great performance to be had in this form factor though

Edit: The ISK is just a case and power supply combo, there is no components included

Ah I think you are confused :p

That is just a case, and the reason I suggested it was because it is probably one of the smallest mini-itx case which you can pack fairly decent hardwares into. You can source for the mini-itx motherboard of your own choice and other parts to build in it.

You'd need to get:
1xSlim Optical drive (if you need it)
2.5" HDD or SSD

For your need, I think you'd best go for a AMD FM2 A10-5800K with a mini-itx board.
