Mini fail

No-one will touch it with a barge-pole. They say it's too fragile and it'll get scratched and scuffed too easily.

Yes because every other finish on cars is nigh on indestructible. You only need to look at my paint and it will start to melt off the car.

More proof insurers are complete ****.

Insure it, put a respectable excess on it to prevent them claiming on oh so fragile chrome finish - job done.

As if anyone is going to jack a Chrome plated Mini, hardly inconspicuous is it.

When I had the flippy paint MGZR I just insured it as being a blue car cos that's exactly what it said on the V5, surely his car must say silver on the V5 so I don't see why he can't just insure it as that.

How much can it cost to re-wrap a single panel? Not much more than spraying an entire panel I bet.

Their argument seems to be "It's too fragile" not "Cost prohibitive to repair".

Does it matter? Wouldn't you agree that there should be plenty of other things on the list between "send kids to university" and "buy chrome plated mini"? It gives his occupation as "builder".

I reckon you should try and look up a bloke called 'Superhod' from the 70s/80s.
he became a millionaire just from carrying bricks for Brickies.
Every decent Builder I know earn a lot of money.

What kind of prat buys a car and then does some insurance quotes?

Muppet.

They guy with the new Z4 on the gocompare advert?

I wouldn't be at all supprised if he is now overrun with calls from insurance companies offering him "a good deal" after seeing the story in the paper. Who knows a follow-up story with the insurance companies name liberally splashed around is win win for all!

I do wonder in MiniInsure gave him a quote as well, on all 3 of mine i've had the 7 days free and when i've phoned they've always given me a quote for 12 months as well.

This is where i am failing to understand what is going on.

You phone insurer, "what colour is it", "<Whatever the V5 says>".

Really not seeing the issue wrt insurance here.

Because its a non standard paint finish.

He can just insure it as whatever it says on the V5. I'm not saying that is is technically correct, and i am sure that in the unlikely event of an issue he may well have a civil issue with his insurance company, but it would enable them to legally drive the vehicle....

It's a modification, if you don't declare it, the policy isn't worth the paper it's written on because you've provided false information to obtain a Motor Insurance Policy which is as good as fraud tbh.
