MINI MOTO MAYHEM

Sponsored by

So now I'm now looking at starting some of the paint work, Luckily I have a family member that is a professional paint sprayer and he's agreed to help with the paint. I was originally going to get this airbrushed but the cost is ridiculous for what I want.

With all the sanding done it was time to fill any unwanted holes and stuff i didn't like. I used a flexible plastics filler it doesn't have a very long working time and had to do this in three batches, yes it sets that quick.

picture.php

It's applied the same way as any other filler

picture.php

and sands down really well

picture.php

I made a makeshift spray booth in the shed. This is ample for laying down some primer and the final coats will be done in the family members booth.

picture.php

The panels were wet sanded between coats

picture.php

wiped down with white spirit and tack cloth.

picture.php

After 3 coats, I applied some satin black onto the belly pan, The satin paint is very easy to get a good finish with. The gloss coats for the other panels will be done by the professional sprayer.

picture.php

The logos will be applied and lacquered in and that is the belly pan complete

The seat/tank unit is still waiting for a bit of modding but while I'm waiting I can still get a coat of primer down and get rid of any blemishes. I'll finish this off when the bit I need arrives.

picture.php

The upper fairing panels are now prepped ready for their top coats, the white did have me worried on getting right, but it's gone very well and the panels are immaculate

picture.php

A few more shots against the black belly pan, we'll see how it stands up to close scrutiny from the professional but I'm fairly confident he won't make me do it again. :D

The panels have turned out really good, The top coats are only going to be as good as the base coats so I'm happy.

Next up is the ancillary stuff like battery trays and brackets, I've started one of the trays, as I wanted to try out a satin lacquer that I found. The tray has been sanded down and I applied two coats of red primer, after wet sanding I've gone straight to lacquer, no top coat as I like this colour.

picture.php

I cut down some sound deadening material to cushion the battery and stop any rattles.

picture.php

And applied to the tray, leaving room for the bolts

picture.php

While the scissors were out I cut up a small dog harness that I'd got from a pound shop, it matches the colour of some of the sleeving I've used (for another update) this will hold the battery in place and is a nice simple solution.

and the assembly together

picture.php

As I was taking photo's I had a delivery, so bonus time here's what turned up.

picture.php

I've gone for a GTX 660, I was tempted to go for a bigger card but I have to think about

1. Price
2. The PSU I'm using
3 It only needs a 1x 6pin connector (reduced cables)

So here it is, (I'm gonna chop this up a bit so here's a warning for the faint hearted)

picture.php

I'm glad EVGA has cleared up what F T W stands for, I totally had that wrong

a nice D5 pump and Top from AlphaCool. I've decided to use this top as you'll be able to see the coolant inside, gives me plenty of mounting options and some flexibility with inlet and outlet ports.

picture.php

I'm not happy with the standard colour and the quality check marks on the impeller, those are easily wiped off with white spirit and a scotch bright pad.

picture.php

After sanding and wiping down with the white spirit, I've masked off the areas that I don't want painting.

picture.php

and so after a couple of coats of paint and lacquer we have the final result.

picture.php

Finally some pics of the final assembly, the fittings are for show as I'm waiting for new ones to arrive from the States.

picture.php

I have cut the parts of the back label that I want as it's not the prettiest of labels, the cables will be sleeved after they have been cut to the right length.

picture.php

Stay tuned, more to come ...

So here goes the single slot conversion for the GTX 660.

First off the stock cooler was removed and the shielding for the two DVI ports. I then chopped through the connecters to the top port (pic not posted, it really was horrific)

This allows me access to the IO plate.

picture.php

This was also sawn in half ... well I did say it's not for the feint hearted. I decided to add to the cards torture by showing its own mutilated body parts BWAHAAHAAHAA

picture.php

The exposed connection is covered with the port cover that EVGA put on their cards (Nice touch EVGA) This makes it a lot tidier

picture.php

Then the cards IO shield was cut in half, filed and sanded. The remaining fixing points were used without the need to make new ones, made things very easy

picture.php

Had a delivery ... A nice EK water block, After the cards face lift it needed some love.

picture.php

Final pic of the card in all its single slot glory, Suits you sir !!

So with an other of those lil jobs out the way, I can move on to the next one ..

The Res arrived from Phame, and I can tell you photos do not do this thing justice, The parcel box was all painted up with his logo and I took care not to rip the box to bits to get at the goodies (Kid at Xmas)

I'd asked James to print off a template from the model to make cutting out the tank easier, this was in the documents pocket taped to the box so it was I good job i'd not destroyed it while opening.

So here's the contents, Res and template. James had also sent me a link so that I could order up the right size O' ring and yes You can see that it's been leak tested and it's the dogs danglies.

picture.php

So the template was cut out and positioned on to the tank

picture.php

and then on to cutting with the dremel, I used a wheel that was small (read worn down) the smaller diameter wheel made it easier cutting around the tight radius.

picture.php

I had a quick file down of the shape and done a test fit, as I was doing this I got carried away with the camera and done a few mock ups, the shape still needs a lil tweeking but for now enjoy the pics.

picture.php

My better half has started the new seat cover, the blue crushed velvet really catches the light

picture.php

picture.php

F'in fly ruined the shot grrrr

picture.php

This is the first time that I've seen how the colours are going to work together, I'm liking a lot

I have been talking to my good friend Asphiax (AT-AT, BORG Cosmos, USS EURISKO) We were discussing the side panels which cover the exposed battery.

Asphiax has started his own business making custom computer parts and also a workshop where he will teach you how to use the machines and give access to much of the machinery used in some of the awesome builds you see in this forum. He is also sponsoring the build

Anyway, back to the panel, I was thinking of having an inlayed Mayhems logo but decided it would be too expensive and a decal would be just as effective, but Sander suggested a few ideas and offered to help. So after a few days he came back to me with a few ideas.

The first render of the suggested logo

picture.php

He then suggested that we do a nice 3D image and curve the Mayhems lettering, There's nothing like having extra input in the design stage. His idea is brilliant and will give a nice bike like detailing feel to the logo, here's the rendering

picture.php

So the original template was transfered onto acrylic, cut, filed and sanded. I took a few reference shots for Sander to work with and sent the panels to Holland.

picture.php

picture.php

Originally he was going to use his CNC to do the logo, but with varying results we needed to take a different approach. Here's a pic of the CNC doing it's thing, the battery is for reference and shows just how small this logo is.

picture.php

There was to much heat for such a small part and so we went with the component being laser printed, the result

picture.php

Here's a pic showing the curved lettering (this is going to look so cool on the bike)

picture.php

Please take some time and check out Sanders business, if you're after adding that lil extra WOW to your build, Sander is definitely worth talking too.

Mod With Me will be producing the decals for the bike and also some masking items for the paint work.

Thanks Sander

This is awesome! A very unique idea, and looks like its going to be well executed.

Thanks James, I'm very conscious about the finish of this build, I'm a bike fan and really want the bike to stand up to close scrutiny, it would just niggle me if I knew there was something there that wasn't quite right.:D

Indeed ^ ;) I sat here spamming F5 as you were posting didn't want to post because of the chain break :p

Thanks Hyburnate, I appreciate you waiting until I had finished getting the log up to date. I'm still catching up with replying to comments.

Stunning build, subbed :)

Thanks man :)
