MINI MOTO MAYHEM

that little display is sick! shows GPU info too, not seen that before

lipos are cheaper than they used to be but still pricier than lead acid.

they puff up now, they don't exactly explode!

I want to build my own 3-axis CNC one day, but my goal would be to mill aluminium which is a trickier proposition than wood/acrylic

Cheers 3t3P, The display is perfect for the build and should be fairly easy to fit.

The batteries did have some thought, and it took a few nano seconds when I saw the price, it would have made things much easier using Lipo.

I'd love to have one of those and yeah it would be great to machine aluminium, having said that I wouldn't be able to leave it alone and my free time would be spent making stuff

MINI UPDATE 30/07/13

After the big update, here's a not so big update

Mod With Me have just sent through pictures of the decals for the belly pan, They're looking good and when applied to the belly pan will give the bike a "race" feel

The decals have been mounted with a backing, to help position in place

picture.php

picture.php

Once in place, peel off the backing

Smooth down, making sure there are no air bubbles (I might use water in this stage)

picture.php

and peel off the front

picture.php

Looks really good ...

picture.php

These are the manufacturers that I will be using for my hardware and .. err bits

picture.php

A huge thanks to Sander and Mod With Me, He's been brilliant keeping me up to date with the progress of these parts
I'm looking forward to getting these through the mail

UPDATE 11/08/12

Time for an update, First on the list is finding a better home for the pump, Someone made a good call and reminded me that the pump might not run properly, so with that niggling me I needed to move it so that it would get a good feed.

I had to add another outlet to the res, which wasn't a big deal but it was very close to the inlet, so to direct the return flow away from the outlet I used some hard tubing and made a U bend which will spray coolant upward to the underside of the Mayhems logo. (Should be a really nice effect)

picture.php

I have also been doing some sleeving, and discovered that I have one of those nasty electronic thingies (resistor/capacitor) on the cable. Really don't like it when PSU manufacturers do this. So that had to be moved further up the cables as it was right on the 24pin connector and impossible to sleeve neatly.

picture.php

With it moved the sleeving was much easier

I have also had delivery of the logo's, decals and masks from Mod With Me, photo's to follow. I decided to double check the bodywork fitting before I started final paint and applying decals. I'm glad I did.

I fitted the Graphics card and m'board tray. before putting on the bodywork ... The bike looks good without it's clothes

So when I refitted the bodywork I found that I still need to make some alterations so that it will fit properly, which means re-doing the belly pan, I'm glad I picked up on it now rather than ruining the decals on the belly pan later.

Still a fair bit to do but it's getting there and I'm happy with the progress

UPDATE 15/08/12

Time to share the package that I received from Mod With Me. First off is the decals, there was a fair few emails getting the details right but it was worth it. Here are the belly pan logo's and the droplet masks.

picture.php

And the 3D printed logo's, man these are small !!!

picture.php

The decals have now been applied and have also been lacquered in, there was no adverse reaction from the lacquer. This is a satin finish (yup I found a satin finish lacquer) the lacquer will stop the decals peeling off and also stop any adhesive on the edges picking up dust. This makes it easy to wipe/clean without the cloth lifting edges.

apologies for the dust that the camera picked up :)

picture.php

I have also painted the base colour on the upper fairing panels, this is a pearlescent finish. It's a two stage paint process with the white going down first and I used a blue pearlescent effect over the top of that, It's very subtle and difficult to pick up on the camera.
(if you look at the leading edges you can just about make out the pearlescent effect)

The droplet masks will be applied randomly and ghosted in with a heavier blue flake. Once that has been done more decals will be applied and then the panels will have a few coats of lacquer.

Talking about packages, I had one from Overclockers UK.

picture.php

guess what's inside .....

picture.php

YAY ... God I've been waiting for this board for what feels like an eternity but it's now on general release and I have one :)

Overclockers UK were kind enough to price match against one I'd found for £196 and they also refunded the delivery too .... Thanks guys much appreciated.

So more picks of the board to come later.......
