Missed 5900x boat, wait or go 3600?

for anyone who s buying 3600 right now, it is probably a bad time. the price has been hiked pre-sales season. current price is pretty much the same as launch prices.

3600 has historically been as low as £143.99 just as a benchmark of value.
I know.

But right now I have no PC more powerful than my phone. Given 5x00 isn't available till an uncertain date...?

So I've not had a useable PC for 2 months and it's really getting to me.
The best idea would have been to pick up by a 3100 or 3600 two months ago! We're maybe only a couple weeks away from 5000 availability... But if you're desperate, still better to pick up a 3000 series then *if you need extra* swap out for a 5000 series in the spring/summer when prices are more reasonable, lower cost SKUs available.

2 months ago we knew that the announcements were due. Then the announcements turned out to be announcements of announcements.

The announcements turned up... And in 3-4 weeks you could buy something. Then they sold out instantly. And there's no certainty that I'll get one before Christmas. Hell, Easter looks iffy for a new graphics card.

If I had known then, known, that there wouldn't be a new chipset, and that nothing would be available for half a year... I would have bought a 3600 and said "I'll upgrade fully in 2022".

Hindsight is amazing.

Anyone that thinks their getting a 5xxx chip before Xmas is deluded.

People haven't even got theirs from the first batch!
I expect they'll be significant 5000 series deliveries over the next few weeks with pretty much all of the current demand/pre-orders met by Christmas. This won't be like the 3080 cards.

I’m contemplating the same. I managed to snag a 5600x on launch day from another retailer. When I checked out it was in stock. Later I got an email saying the delivery is delayed till the 12th.

Today I checked if it was on track and they are saying they don’t know when!

All my other parts are in hand...thinking to cancel my order now and just get a 3600.

I’m in the same boat and in the 300’s queue waiting for the 5900x I’d just suggest ordering it if you haven’t already and then use something for the mean time... as for me I won’t start putting together my other components until the cpu is here and just game on my 2500k for now...

Hmm not so sure, a competing site lists over 230 pre orders outstanding for the 5600x, and recieved 30 in the last batch a couple of days ago .... there is nearly 1500 outstanding pre orders for the 5900x, and thats just one seller

You won't go wrong with a 3600 under £200. I don't think you will lose much re-sale value when you manage to get your hands on a new gen CPU.
