Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning (Part One)

This was really really good.

Perfect blend of action, humour and enjoyable entertainment.

Best film I've seen since Top Gun Maverick.

You can tell a lot of the stunts and action sequences were real / practical effects rather than the pure cgi fest of other recent action films. This makes it.

It's quite long, 3hrs inc trailers but it goes by at a decent pace so never boring. Great performances from the cast too.

In a different league to Dial of Destiny as a reference point.

8.5/10 for me.

Really enjoyable on the whole. Good action and plot (it makes you care about people chasing a key) but had one or two very minor issues that keeps it from 9/10.

1) The team chasing Ethan down always seemed to know where he would be

2) Explanation from Carey Elwes on the train was a bit hard to follow. Americans gave the Russians an inferior version of the AI for some reason, but it went rogue and sunk itself for protection and only one man knew where the Sub was...also Ethan hunt spareing Mantis life somehow made her want to betray Gabriel?

Edit - Oh and Hayley Atwell looks incredible as per usual

It was enjoyable, I'd give it 7/10. Definitely a switch your brain off and enjoy the action, MacGuffin hunt.

One thing that bothered me (big spoiler)
in the fight where Ilsa was killed, you don't get in close with a sword when your opponent has a knife. She's a highly trained espionage agent and fighter, you use the extra reach of the sword, fight over in 5 seconds. Obviously, it was required for the plot though.

Oh, and the White Widow's bodyguard didn't notice that her striking blue eyes were suddenly equally striking brown eyes??!

Edit - Benji uses a self-driving car at one point loaded with electronics....but that somehow wasn't compromised by the mega powerful AI that had already compromised the team's electronics. It could have driven him straight off a cliff / at speed into something solid.

P.S. Hayley Atwell and Vanessa Kirby are ridiculously hot.

Looking at going to see this. I really enjoyed fallout and for me this is the best one in the series, just get a feeling it won’t be as good.

The helicopter scene and fight scene in the toilets in fallout was awesome.

What’s everyone’s opinion, is it better than fallout ?

It doesn't feel as self contained as Fallout but it is only Part 1.

In that regard, Fallout is definately more satisfying.

This is easily on par though.

Fallout was released against the backdrop of much stronger cinematic films too with Marvel Phase 3 Infinity War /Endgame era as an example.

In the context of the current last couple of years of 'blockbuster movies', Dead Reckoning is leagues ahead of current action genre cinematic releases, even John Wick 4.
