Mistakes of this console generation

Edit - Forgot a big one for PS3: Despite all their hype and bravado about High Definition, it doesn't even come with an HDMI cable! Net result being every non-geek player using standard defintion interlaced composite crappovision for the rest of the console's life. Oh dear!

No console has ever come with anything other than a composite cable - Im not saying its right but you cant pick out the PS3 as the only culprit

HDTV's arent anywhere as widespread to include an hdmi cable as default (even though for a £2 cable I cant see it making much difference)

Huh?

The original 360 came with composite and component cables, so was equipped for high definition out of the box. Later the 360 Elite came with composite, component and HDMI cables out of the box. I don't think any other consoles are relevant because they're not built around high definition games.

Everyone's gaga for posh TVs. Especially the demographic that would consider buying a PS3.

Probably not exactly related to the thread but im wondering when consoles will come out that have multi disc trays. Be nice to be able to have a few games in at once so swapping and changing isn't as necessary. Stereos have it so why not games consoles?

Developers want to keep hardware costs down, not inflate them with pointless additions like multiple trays.

lol, because it's not worth the hassle and cost of implementing to save some lazy bugger a mere 2 seconds of his time.

after reading the thread heres my opinion:
360: some are way to loud, and come on the 3ROD rate is stupid
360: user needs to pay for online, and a wireless adapter (although not essential)
360: elite should have had hd dvd built in imo
360: games a rip off

ps3: despite online being free, XBL>PSN
ps3: controls too light and dont rumble, imo sony should give every ps3 user a free ps3 rumble pad as an apology for them being idiots
ps3: seem to have lost many exclusives and multiformat games often are just bad 360 ports
ps3: dust magnet
ps3: all these mem card slots yet where is the ps1/ps2mem card slot?!?!
ps3: way overpriced on release and games a rip off

wii: boring on your own on most games
wii: isnt even 720p
wii: nintendo would make so much more money if they actually had the consoles in stock to sell
wii: doesnt play dvds. I know its a so called 'fun' console but bring it into this century please.
wii: at heart not much more than an overclocked gamecube. imo the dated hardware will mean it needs replacing before the ps3 and 360

For me the flaws are pretty much what has been stated so far:

360 - seriously prone to failure (having said that my launch one only just failed and most consoles only last 3 years or so from personal experience); 120gb HDD is way too expensive atm; should have put a built-in HD-DVD drive in the elite, I would definitely have bought it then.

PS3 - lack of killer games, particularly exclusives (doesn't help that GTAIV is multi-platform); I think the controller's are too small, I find them weird to hold compared to the 360's; price is too high and the 40gb model is inferior (lacks many of the features of the 60/80gb model); multi-platform games seem to suffer from frame-rate issues on the PS3 compared to the 360

Wii - motion-sensor tech has been incredibly innovative but can limit the type of games available; lack of third-party support; a lot of games seem to be quite samey.

I think the 360 has the edge at the moment simply because of the brilliant line-up of games, 2007 was such a good year for the 360 in terms of Xbox Live and games releases.

I finally got my hands on a PS3 for a weekend. So I own a 360 and Wii but wont be getting a PS3.

360
Failures
Black, wanted it black from the start
Media playback could be better.

Wii
Lack of decent 3rd party titles
overpriced roms
Cant take it seriously. Waving my arms about is fun but tbh I dont want to make "relief" movements with my hand and have my parents laughing at me.
Not black
No DVD playback. I mean come on...

PS3
Controllers. Cant use em. Too light. Thumbstick positioned wrong. No rumble. The way Sony handled it was just... ugh.
XMB. Cant see where I want to go till I get 2 steps to it.
Price
Lack of decent titles after a year

I don't have a PS3 because it doesn't offer anything the 360 doesn't. I'm glad the 360 doesn't have a built in HD DVD. It would up costs for something I don't need. If I was a first time buyer now I probably wouldn't get a PS3 because I'm seeing better games on the 360. I have nothing against the console. Just the father of it.

My 360 premium came with composite and component cables out of the box. My 360 elite came with HDMI and component cables out of the box. Only the core/arcade doesn't come with HD cables.

If theyre so pointless why do stereos have them? Ive seen dvd systems with multiple disc trays as well.

Because they are a gimic for crap hifi companies. AFAIK there arent any high end hifi companies that have multi disc trays.

I wish people would stop complaining about the PS3 price, it's now around the same as a premium/pro and miles cheaper than the elite...

Agreed...it's a bargain if you need both free online play and wifi connectivity (worth £100 for 360). Blu-ray is the icing on the cake.

The core certainly didnt come with a componant cable (which was by far what was bought the most compared to premium)

As above - I guess everyone conveniently forgets about the "core" buyers even though they are by far the largest demographic of X360 owners

If the cable is so cheap - why should it only be packaged with a "premium" product?

I believe Microsoft quoted somewhere that they have sold 20% of all 360's in USA as Core (i.e. 4:1 ratio premium:core). This was before the new pro/arcade editions, but even then 20% seems fairish figure I would say.
