Mistakes of this console generation

Kane and Lynch: 9.59GB unpadded
Unreal Tournament 3: 4.17GB unpadded
Warhawk: 2.17GB unpadded
assassins creed: 7.88GB unpadded
CoD4: 5.34GB unpadded
VF5: 3.84GB unpadded

So to conclude most games are similar in size to 360 games yet the loading times are almost universally slower.

Unpadded but compressed! (I hope youre not sourcing torrents!lol) You are also forgetting harddrive data (devs dont need to think about users with memory cards) + its only a couple of seconds anyway!LOL

I never said it was a big thing. Compressing is getting rid of redundant data, just like on the 360 torrents which are similar in size :)

Where do you get these figures from? I am not disputing them, it's just UT3, I am certain, is using more than that (just based on what I have read from Epic).

UT3 PS3 rip is about 4 gig. I've seen it myself.

Anyways! Bah humbug and all that. /goes off to play on his rubbish consoles

But seeing as these rips can't be used on a ps3 (to my knowledge) how can anyone verify that is the full game? i.e. content has not been removed etc.

I know it's not really relevant, but I'll add anyway that my PC installation folder is 7.95gb.

V1N.

A private tracker.

All the 360 ones ripped before we could play them worked, I see no reason to think otherwise with PS3 ones. Take this to email if you want to discuss it further mate as this is dodgy ground on OcUK.

Theres a nice Blu-ray SATA drive for under £100 quid, should be able to use that to get the TRUE size of PS3 games... if you are that desparate.

Because it's very inefficient and a pain n the ass during summer. I also have to be careful what I put next to it.

So why is the 2x BD in the PS3 not outperforming an 8x DVD in the 360 when it should be equivalent to an 20x DVD by your numbers?

Uncharted and Ratchet have no real serious loading times. Whilst ratchet puts around 400megs onto the hard drive i haven't noticed this for uncharted strangely. Wonder how they do it.

It's a cache, so it puts the selected data there as needed and remains to increase loading from there on. Whereas RR7 is an install where it takes 5 mins to install 5GB and gives you a mini game to play. The RR7 install is optional also, you don't have to do it and its quit hidden in the menus so you wouldnt know about it without stumbling upon it or being told about it.

Gotta give sony some credit for building the PSU ino the thing and still having it cool efficiently. I wonder when we'll be seeing the PS3 slim? (with a exterior PSU of course) For the record, mine is super quiet and seems to run rather cool aswell, even the heat out of the back doesn't seem excessive at all.

I've not found that problem, if anything, I think the heat is on par with my 360 - and the PS3 has the power supply built in.

Scort.

With the 3 PS3's I've come across, all are far hotter than my 360.

How? Compression effects file size.

 I give up with you.

They have developed a fantastic cooling system, I'll give them that.

Maybe im misunderstanding what you mean, but torrents dont specifically indicate the size of a game! Torrents are usually compressed by the uploader in many different shapes or form, so a .rar file of a game usually isnt the games actual size, comparing torrent sizes is stupid tbh.

Wing me an email or add me to msn if you want to discuss it further as we're destroying this thread.

360: Legacy of the Core system. No guarantee of a HDD being present will hamstring the system to some extent for the rest of its days.
360: Truly disgraceful reliability and noise issues. Hope the hardware designers got sacked.
360: XBL Gold not good value. There should be dedicated game servers instead of peer hosted servers on Johnny Gamer's terrible home connection. Also the subsequent screwing over of non-subscribers by delaying access to demos, etc.

PS3: Horrible pretentious advertising campaigns.
PS3: Lack of unified online system and account. If there was one thing to copy from the Xbox, this was it.

Wii: Not as cheap and cheerful as it should be.
Wii: Where's the black version of the console that was always shown? That was badass.
Wii: Dire friend code based online system.

Edit - Forgot a big one for PS3: Despite all their hype and bravado about High Definition, it doesn't even come with an HDMI cable! Net result being every non-geek player using standard defintion interlaced composite crappovision for the rest of the console's life. Oh dear!
