whats happening ?????

well, my m8 at work ( ex car mechanic) saw the original EVO 6, the 4 Star car, he said it was in excellent condition and well cared for, but it had no service history from Japan. He then said `` i wouldn't buy it without a full service history`` ..... but he was shocked to see how good it looked !

i'm waiting to hear from two other sellers.... one of these is an Evo X, but to be honest it's not looking good, the biggest problem is all these cars are too far away to view..

i will never buy an Evo from the Isle of Mann without a valid MOT, he refused to get his car MOTd for the U.K (they dont need a British style MOT over there), he told me that was my job....... I couldn't even be bothered to answer him, what a W*****

i cant post in on that forum anymore...... because your max postings are 20 and after that you have to pay an additional £35 subscription for a year only .....daylight robbery

i've sent 4Star another email, i'm going to take another look at the Evo and give it a test drive, and here's his reply

Hello Malcolm,

There is no service record I'm afraid.

We have sold many vehicles from Japan so I am talking from experience and generally the paperwork is not always as complete as you would expect from a European car. Although they are often in better condition. Both the Tommi Macs we recently sold also had very little service history.

You are of course more than welcome to test drive the car.

Kind regards

see what i mean, it's all pie in the sky, ok i'll view it again thursday

Wise words from him imo.

Shock horror, Classic car seller who's charging a premium for a car with little to no verifiable history portrays this as normal, from what I've read on other forums imported cars with lots of paperwork is far from rare....

I would expect it to be in good condition given where its lived all its life but equally wouldn't be surprised to find its just had a good detail and valet to bring it up like new.

Its undoubtedly lovely and clean, very clean, but still IMO an awful lot of money for a ~ 17Year old car with no verifiable history.

If it had files of papers documenting a pampered existence then I'd view it very differently, the fact it does not at this price point puts me right off and I must say I'd feel the same way were it any other relatively rare car, not just because it isn't nor ever would be my choice of classic.

i've chosen a car, it's the 530HP one, but i'll only buy it after i've seen it..

this other one, although looking fantastic............ is just too suspicious..

in fact, the one i've chosen looks almost as good, but has a full service history and is regularly maintained to a high standard.....we'll see.

this car scares the crap out of me so there's no way i'm driving it home from up North so it'll have to be delivered

That is the wrong way around surely? You chose a car after seeing it then and only then do you start contemplating buying it.

A pretty and clean engine bay does not make a wonder buy, you'd be surprised how well a 4 year old 300k mile HGV diesel engine comes up after a steam clean and rinse off, like new, believe me.

I think your blinded by something in this, not sure what, but something seems to be skewing you.

Please drive it home. Swing by the m62 and I'll come take a look and advise the best route home. It's pretty hilly in these parts. 4wd will be called into play.

where is the car i live around manchester.

One thing id point out here is that while people are telling you that there is strong demand for Evos, it's been over a week and how many have actually sold?

If that car blows it's gonna be a 5-10k engine rebuild..

There's strong demand for red Tommi Makinens and 9 MR FQ360's. But the prices for all evo's are on the rise, and have been for the last few years.

My car is probably worth what I paid for it over 6 years ago.
My old evo has just sold (this week) for £700 more than I sold it for in 2008.

I wish I had kept mine rather than selling it to a mate. Having a look its worth pretty much the same now with triple the mileage as when I sold it.

Oh well was a while ago now....

not driving home !!! no way man, i'll either kill myself or end up in Glasgow, this car will need to be got home safely and then driven close to home until i get used to it.

i'm going to wait a day, let myself calm down and take time to think this through carefully, he knows i've just told him.

Seriously? You are not going to drive home your new car on that lovely long journey where i'm sure there are some lovely roads! I'll drive it for you? Save you the delivery cost and all you have to do is put fuel in, can't promise it'll get to your house though ;)
