no, use your brains, no 16 year old car will ever a paint job like new, all his cars looked like this......i'm just being very fussy that's all

troll ?..............you're the troll

£15 000 ??......................i'm not paying £15 00 for it ;)

I think ol' Mr Fox has quite the motoring brain around here actually.

And at this level - the price / age of car ratio & all that, you'd be surprised at how some 16 year old cars paint looks...

A local to me BMW specialist with an e28 M5 springs to mind, its literally as new with ultra low mileage and paintwork to shame the majority of 3 year old cars at my local BMW dealer, its not for sale and I doubt he'd be daft enough to ruin it with a respray - its the owners retirement fund, along with a Z8......

Your being extremely fussy, to the point I imagine you may actually wake yourself up if your not careful! :p

ok.....after loads of thinking i'll offer him less money equal to the price of a respray, because i mentioned the paint finish to him anyway so he knows.

this car isn't mint on the outside, so my offer will reflect this, in addition, it's an import, so we cant be sure about the engine either, especially the cambelt etc, i mentioned this too, so he legged it into the office to try and find out.... this bothered him when he came back !!! (my guess is the belts are ok for another 12,000 miles, but they're damned expensive to replace)

so if he sais no to my offer then it's goodbye.

none of this crap is easy because i live so far away from the action, because all the best Evos are around Manchester

So its not mint, your unsure about the engine yet are still talking relatively top dollar?

I'd sit down and have a good think mate, really, I would.

Reading the thread you seem unsure on many levels, daydreaming (hence my last comment) perhaps? I dunno.

I'd hate to see somebody make a monumental **** up, you seem on the verge of doing so imo.

that's fair, but i'm not stupid or i wouldn't be having these doubts.... because you come home all excited.....calm down and then you worry.

``that paintjob isn't mint`` i've been thinking this all afternoon, the engine is deffo very low mileage..... but i dont trust it, because i see no Service reports do i....

that Evo is only worth £10 000 and if wasn't for the incredibly low mileage.............only £8 000, damn it i'm now depressed.

You're telling me it has no history to it? If I was buying an 15k Evo I would want everything back to original bill of purchase even if it was all in Japanese!

Don't buy an Evo if you think changing the belts is expensive, it's a relatively inexpensive cost compared to other costs of Evo ownership.

I wouldn't touch an evo 10 with a barge pole. Especially an SST.

With regards to the evo 6. The paint on all evo's is rubbish. The white isn't actually pure white. Scotia white is an off white colour and you really need to use the correct treatments to get it looking its best.

Cam belt/balancer shaft belts are £500 to get changed at a good evo specialist.
It's every 45,000 or 5 years. Make sure it's been done in that time or get the money off the car. If the balancer shaft belt goes it often takes out the cam belt with it.

Ok

I have read some more

Your crazy. You have no idea what your doing around cars like this. If you want one, sit back then go on MLR forum and read. Read some more. Think some more. Then take someone with you to view any car

Take most milage on any import as pinch of salt also and if it looks really fresh it's likely been painted up recently, you need to look much deeper than shiny paint

Might seem like I'm being a whab but someone is going to take your trousers off and tie you up then call lee-Roy around to the tune of 15.k
You will never walk the same again

What does the import documents say, what auction grade was it?

My mr2 had everything down to the original apexi certificates when they were bought and installed whilst in japan. (Hayabusa exhaust and intake).

Many cars are repair damaged and sprayed on export or import to make them more expensive. Find out who imported it etc.

I'll echo this, I've changed all of the belts and tensioners and it's the least of my worries. Carbon blade on my spoiler is next coming in at £180 as nobody really wants to touch it. I've replaced the fuel filler neck recently and that alone was £150 for the part. It also needs a rolling road session to see what's wrong with it, it's running far too lean and nobody knows why.

If you're not prepared to spend serious money, don't buy an Evo.

Saying all that, I wouldn't want it any other way because it's a very capable car! :D

OK, well I'm lost.

Are we still talking about the EVO6 on the first page? It's up for £15K but needs a respray and it's service history isn't well known? If so it's worth half the asking price and thats being generous.

Personally, £15K would go on an EVO IX. I was looking at them myself (Or scoob or RS4 avant) but put the money into another BTL property.

you can deffo see the cars history when you look at it, it's original paint for sure, original mileage too, it might actually be good that it is scruffy !!!! because at least i know that it is original.

but i'm not messing around with this much longer, i'll buy another car next week from Honda
