MM Access Worth It or Not?

Who said I’m bumping up my post count, I said getting the amount of posts is time consuming. Time consuming as I’m not in here posting nonsense 20 times a day to do just that.
Sounded like you were hinting at doing it in general, that's all :) And there is a bit in the rules about this, so I personally wouldn't of even worded the OP/your responses how you did.

Yeah waste of your time, like I said mate don't bother, easier places to go and buy/sell stuff without needing to jump through hoops.

I've just built 2 gaming rigs and all of the components were from the MM, cheaper than Ebay and in excellent condition, I am squeeky clean on there too as I would hate to lose such a valuable resource, well worth it. Just takes a little longer to get the bits you're looking for.

I think it'll be genuinely interesting what happens to the things available on MM once the rule gets enforced... I feel there might be funny side issues where somebody loses access mid transaction.

Personally, I've not really used the members market much. I bought a Pixel Watch from here as I knew the person was local to me, but when it comes to selling, I find I can make more money on eBay when using the 80% off selling fees.

I'll typically see if the item has sold recently on the MM and for what price, then check sold listings on eBay. The sold prices on eBay are typically higher. I've sold a lot on eBay recently and I've not had any issues.

A lot of users on here seem to think that you should sell under market price by more than what eBay fees would cost you, just because they perceive eBay to be risky.

I'm guilty of not using the forum, prefer to lurk and read. I have used the MM quite a bit over the years, but not much recently.

I prefer to buy new with warranty now and anything I've got left after upgrading goes to my 3 daughters, who all have gaming PCs.

With the new rules I'll definitely not have MM access, but it's not the end of the world.
Is it worth it? Not really, used to be, but not so much now. I definitely won't be posting random crap just to keep access!

It's changed a lot, it's quite rare now I see something I think is well priced and I actually want / need that didn't get snapped up in the first minute.
There seems to be a big drop in listings over the years and particulaly this last quarter. I have notifications on and it mostly seems to be random accessories or smart watches I assume were bundled with a new phone contract :D

I don't think I've sold anthing on there in a long time... I tend to gift stuff on or sell it at mates rates in my circle.

Kinda cool to have it though as it's way to trade with less risk of being scammed and I am proberly due a clear out of 'too good for the tip stuff...'

I tend to use it whenever I need to buy and sell second hand tech. Sometimes if there's an ebay listing offer on I'll do that as well, but I tend to prefer the MM. I definitely think it's worth it.

Some good bargains to be had and also beats eBay and FB Marketplace as you avoid the scammers and time wasters. Plus the additional perks which members are not allowed to talk about ;)

I browse there, but don't purchase often. It's nice knowing I have a place to shop though where the chances of coming across a scammer is pretty rare, if it's even ever happened at all here! Also I think you'll often find something slightly cheaper here, than if it was advertised somewhere else more open.
Some other forum I visit is more accessible but I also see many more sales having issues or actual scammers.

MM is superb. Bought and sold a fair few things in there over the years and not once have I ever encountered an issue. That's the beauty of it being locked down to members which contribute to the forums, it keeps the scammers out. MM pricing is generally lower too quick most people are happy to take the hit on vs eBay for the convenience and safety factors.

I sold a gaming laptop on eBay once, the buyer tried it on by saying the sound didn't work and various other things. I was ******** bricks thinking I would lose out on a lot of money. I did my best to try and talk them through reinstalling drivers etc, but they demanded a partial refund. In the end I chose the option to let them return it to me, which I was also scared about the fact that I might receive it back completely trashed or a brick in the box. But as soon as I opened the return I never heard a thing back from them.

That was a lesson learned and I've never sold anything like that on eBay ever since.

See, that's the exact attitude I mentioned in my earlier post. Why should the benefit of trading on the MM sit entirely with the buyer through lower price? The perceived benefit of using the MM to avoid scammers isn't exclusive to the seller, the buyer is also purchasing from someone that's part of the community and therefore benefiting from lower risk.

Pay a fair price, and everyone wins. You don't overpay, the seller gets a fair price and you're getting lower risk versus eBay.

I've lost count of the times I've seen posters offering derogatory offers, someone comes in with either asking or close to asking price and the person who made the derogatory offer then asks to be second in line. If you wanted the item and are willing to pay the higher price, just offer it in the first instance.

Most of my for sale posts on the MM state that I'm not open to offers because I know what I can get for the items via eBay (filter by completed sales of said item). I'll usually price a tad lower on here so there's still value to be had. If I get no bites, I'll put it on eBay and sell for higher.

I don’t disagree and I’ve heavily used AV Forums in the past for HiFi and AV equipment. I do find classified adverts on dedicated member forums have usually been well looked after.

On here I bought a Samsung smart watch described as good as new and it was, not a mark on it.

I thought I’d bought a few computer bits on here too, a PSU being one but maybe I’m mixing it up with the other place
