Mmmm Mango! (preview)

(Making the rather large baseless ignorant assumption that WP7 will have perfect exchange support :p)

Cheers,

Su

Almost all things WP7 from a users perspective work great with exchange. For administrators though its an entirely different kettle of fish, as we can't enable encryption, and only half the security policies work on it!

PAP support has only just come with the last update - getting certificates onto the darn things is a nightmare (as no file transfer) and worst for my organisation is that OCS doesn't work on it without upgrading to Lync server.

Suppliers are not willing to develop for it - Microsoft UK are arrogant gits who don't seem to give a crap (Spoke to one of their head guys who wasn't interested in speaking to our suppliers at all!) - so bespoke apps won't work unless published on Microsofts Marketplace.

I REALLY hope for microsofts sake Mango brings along better Enterprise functionality - we currently purchase 50 WM6.1 devices per month, and now they are going out of stock we will be forced to move to alternatives.

Hell WP7 ain't even supported by SCCM yet either!!! - What microsoft are playing at i really don't know.

theres a thread on XDA for getting the mago update with out jailbraking your phone.

If you do this make sure you keep your current phone backup safe! There is no upgrade path from beta Mango to release Mango.
If you lose your backup, then you'll be stuck with the beta Mango version.

On this note anyone know how you can move the default save location of backups? You can change all the other paths in Zune but I can't find one to change this. I had to delete my last backup because I was running out of space on my C drive...

Got my Optimus 7 today, and I've been playing around with it a lot - it's ace!

UI is pretty simple, but silky smooth and very pretty. No crashes or major blips yet (unlike the hourly hiccups with my Nexus S :p). It may well just be "new toy syndrome", but I'm seriously considering switching over to WP7 for my personal phone as well. Will see what goodies are in store when Nokia/Mango 7.5 devices roll out :D

The only major problem I have is with my work email (the main reason I got this phone!) - it will not sync with my company's Exchange server :( set it up using the same pfx/p12 certificate I used with my Android device, and it's giving me an 80072F0D error - "There is a problem with the certifcate for pushmail.xxx.com".

Doh! Can anyone help out please? I've tried Google, but no joy... :(

Just bought a HTC 7 PRO, should be here next week. My SE X1 is being RMA'ed again (got to love a 2 year warranty) but I have a feeling I'll be fighting them for replacements every 6 months I should get a new qwerty phone.

I'll just leave this here...

Sockets are the thing I'm most looking forward to, how could they release it without sockets, a technology that has been around since the dawn of the internet! Not having sockets would be fine if MS's push notification service wasn't so bad :(.

Quick question chaps, does Bing maps on WP7/Mango integrate the ordinance survey tiles like the desktop browser... and can you cache them? :)

That would be one sweet ass feature for UK owners. (esp with Nokia ovimaps )
