I'm addicted to World of Warcraft. I just can't stop playing it, or thinking about it while at work, or while lying in bed.

I'm a rational human being, so why is this happening to me? I'm a creative person with hopes and ambitions, but I spend all my free time playing a stupid game.

Help.

You roll 10d20, if you score 199 or above you can quit.

In my experiance you just have to keep playing till you become so flipping annoyed by the new changes that you can't take anymore

But WoW man....how can you get addicted to something infested with young teenagers with the mental age of a 5 year old?

Try EVE. Much better. If you have to be addicted to an MMORPG, at least make sure its one that doesnt feature toons clad in skimpy clothes with irritating /dance emotes.

Alternatively, you could just apply gentle repeated downward pressure on the top of your PC case with a sledgehammer.

Take a holiday for a week or two. When you get back, you may find you're really looking forward to playing again, but you may also find that you can live your life without playing WoW every single day.

Go cold turkey, and take it like a man :p

What he said. I zipped up and deleted my Q3 folder a couple of weeks ago. Now if i need a fix i cant play it 'cos it'll take half an hour to unzip... so i pester my housemates to play Pro Evo on the ps2 :p

mmm final year uni... :/

Give away your stuff. Just run round screaming (naked if preferred) that you're quitting the game and will give away yer stuff at xxxx time. I did that, it was the only way I could get the hell away from ultima online, thank god I did too.

Cold turkey works. I didn't get a chance to play EQ1 for about a month because I was too busy with exams and revising at the time. Never really had the urge to play after that so I sold my account.
I have the odd urge to play it again now, 2 years later, but there's always so many other things to do. Plus I know it wouldn't be the same anymore.

Cancel the account, smash up the disc, wipe your harddrive, beat yourself on the head with a brick till you forget your account name and password then go spend 6 weeks on a welsh mountain.

Push yourself away from it and start new activities. Look at the damage it does to you and yourself as well, ignore the justifications in your head when you know its wrong :P lol

Believe me mate, youre wasting yourself tbh. The company laughs at you!

I recently had to freeze my account for a while so that I could focus the next 3-4 months on my group project and exams! Really, it's the only way I can stop myself! I didn't play excessively but instead of spending my slack time on more useful things, I would play it all day until I really had to start working.

I even replaced the Radeon 9700Pro in my PC with my crappy FX5200 :D but a good thing is that it's passively cooled which means I can't hear it when studying.

Once my exams finish though, Burning Crusade should be out then and I'll be spending the following 3-4 months getting a sexy female Blood Elf Hunter/Rogue to Level 60 :p

its hard to go cold turkey if you don't have anything to fill the time you would have spent on that game (in your case WOW).

try to make some plans with friends to do things after work for starters, get a couple of good books or magazines so you can keep your mind occupied.

also try a different game, something that u can just pick up and play for a bit that won't suck you in with a leveling grind, GTA vice city is great as u can just free roam or take part in some amusing missions. or maybe a first person shooter or sports title would be a decent alternative.

I was lucky in the respect I got a 360 on launch day. I was getting fedup of WoW so had that to take my mind off it. Tbh I nipped back on to chat to a couple of m8's but havne't missed it one bit. My account is cancelled now and I doubt I will go back for a while at least if at all.

I've been back and started to play HL2 again and also BF2. I now prefer which is why Xbox is great to just grab something play online/offline for an hour or so and then go and watch tv/dvd or something. I found that whilst you meet some great peeps online in RPG's they are just too much of a time sink and too addictive. I've seen people become seriously addicted to these games and that was enough to scare me off :O
