MMORPGs - Which one to go for?

Are henchmen in? I was very tempted to re-sub when I heard about them, might actually make parts of the game soloable.

What with only getting xp for completed quests and stuff, I've never seen a game that tries harder to **** you off :p

They should be in, busy doing the update at the moment, as for getting xp when u finish the quest, i think thats a good idea, but there are 'instances' now were you get xp for killing so many mobs, finding rare creatures and killing them and explorer locations

If you decide to play Warhammer make sure it's on the US servers as the EU ones are run by a bunch of muppets. It's fairly easy to get hold of the US edition of the game and oddly enough lag etc are actually less of a problem than on the EU one.

Personally I have a lifetime subs with LOTRO but find it boring beyond belief. WoW I wouldn't touch again, enjoyed it but PvP isn't great and I don't have 5-6hours every week to take part in raids again :)

Eve Online - great game, excellent concept but I found it really boring (did play for 3 years though!).

I'm playing Warhammer on US servers now, enjoying it a lot. It feels like WoW but with more enjoyable PvP, not sure I'd say the combat system was as good for PvE though.

EVE or WAR, PVE is for fags.
EVE has PVE
EVE has so much PVE you'll wee yourself.
what do you think all the caldari players do all day?

try EVE, it's good, but you need TIME and a willingness to dedicate yourself to an area of the game, PVE, PVP, etc or you'll take ages to get anywhere

The reason I liked Eve Online, was its complexity. It filters out all the immature children who can't persevere with anything, leaving a mature gaming community.

It's also more exhilarating as you have to think a bit more instead of ploughing straight into a fight, as you have to work for your wealth, instead of it being handed straight back.

Eve can also be a harsh mistress, in the early days of my ignorance I lost almost everything more than once due to gate camps :) after the initial frustration at my own stupidity I just built it back up again. Now that might sound painful or not much fun but to me I loved the fact this could happen and that I had to get smart or spend my life in a pod :D
So many layers of complexity and paths to choose, specialise or be master of nothing ;)

Personally I've bounced from mining to mission running and back again but have settled on Exploration as it encompasses both allowing me to look for either.

WAR is terrible... try WoW for free and you will really enjoy it. The main areas are still populated at about 7pm and you will find more people here play it.

WAR just bored me and felt really old and tacky.

I loved AoC but only got to level 38 and loved the combat system.

I would wait for another 4months then try it as people say its bad... Personally i liekd it.

You will get mixed reviews of MMO's here but seriously try WoW as its free. If you hate it, try another free trial like LoTRO and so on...

Avoid WaR imho but if you want to buy it then please do... but its not worth it!

Another vote for WoW and some thoughts. I'm a MMO newbie and only have tried WoW tbf. Signed up late-September via the RAF link, firstly to try the game and also becuase it had the bonus of getting a free month & mount for a friend who lives in WoW.

I enjoy a few hours a week on solo-PVE, and have got a Drenai Shaman to Lvl.38 with some tripple XP questing. This sounds terrible, but I've found an annoyingly high level of players in the areas so far, either who want to group or are already killing the targets on that quest. So although there might be loads of players in the TBC/WOTLK areas, there are a fair few in the original questing areas, obviously including the capitals which tend to be very popular.

I'm not sure if I'll buy any more time, because although I can see the hook, it hasn't quite got me and I'd like to turn my attention to some other games, but equally I could continue to play this as it's very enjoyable so far.

Darkfall online is coming Jan. 22 in EU, it is UO with a modern engine, total freadom, pvp everywhere, etc. http://www.darkfallonline.com/ & there is EvE online which has total freedom also, but the game is boring.

Interesting.
Another attempt at "To advance a skill you have to use a skill" - a system which I love.
I played UO from beta (Yes, when it was beta in the US I played from here in the UK on a 14,400 modem) and loved the game.
SWG tried similar - but they ruined that game.

This is definitely one I'll be looking at.
I know for a fact that it won't be as popular as WOW etc - but that is certainly not a bad thing at all.

Possibly the closest thing to the very best MMORPG ever - UO.

Nobody really cares if it is as popular as WoW it will actually prove to developers that MMO's don't have to be like WoW to succeed all the time. We need to have indie developers bring something new to the market or it will be the same thing over and over.

Give Star Wars Galaxies a try, jump in to the shoes of your fave character IE jedi, bounty hunter, smuggler, officer and a few more, explore the galaxy do countless missions, get cool decoration items for your ingame house, become a master pilot (which is kind of easy TBH) and have your own huge ship with custom weapons and decor.
There are lots of instances with awesome loot, pvp is ok'ish but its mainly centered around pve.
Hang out in the mos eisely cantina chat with your friends/guild, i play it and have been for 2 years and i love it.
If your going to give it it a try go to starwarsgalaxies.com and try the trial, come to the Starsider server and ill help you get started :)

World Of Warcraft, simple answer to a simple question.
It's the best MMO out at the moment, not much comes close.

I've herd good things about EVE as well.

Part and parcel of Warcrafts appeal is that if you pick the right server even as a new guy, you can find lots and i mean lots of friendly people on lower levels who will help you.

Also depends on what youre looking for from a mmo.
Big thing that lets WoW down are the people playing it and general community. Unfortunatly it attracts a collosal amount idiots (as you may have noticed already) and due to its popularity this problem is magnified ten fold. This was my main reason for leaving after 3 years of play and I havnt looked back.
LOTRO and EVE both have great communities. Warhammer's (from my experience on Allarielle server) is excellent aswell, but I'm not sure about the bigger ones as I've not played them.
Having said all that, WoW is a very polished game and probably a good start for most MMO newbies due to its user friendlyness and general "wow" factor (excuse the pun).

I was going to start a similar thread as I have been without a MMO for 7 months. I am having difficulties in finding the right PvE game even though there are many to choose from.

Last week I re-activated LOTRO and rolled a new hunter as it does not feel right going back to my level 50 Minstrel after such a long gap. Looks great with my new rig DX10 maxed. The best community I have come across in a game - you are never alone even if not in a guild. But to be honest I am looking for something new with a bigger world to explore as I am one who is not really interested in the end game.

EQ2 - I tried it a couple of months ago and I liked it, but I felt very alone. Hardly anyone around in the low level areas and was not invited to group once.

Vanguard - I tried it again about 6 months ago and it has improved immensely but again it was a lonely place.

AoC - tried it but we all know how that went - great graphics.

WoW - graphically not for and I did not care too much for the community. I do agree that it is the most well rounded MMO available.

So here I am with all the time in the world to play a MMO but having difficulty deciding which one. I will probably stick with LOTRO for a while but my heart is not really in it this time round.
