Mod BIOS For Asus EAH4850

8.9 drivers? they should work. point it to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\8-9_vista64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_68906\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF\

if u wanna flash to your old bios just use your backup bios or go to http://www.mvktech.net/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,26/ or techpowerup and download asus bios.

Flashed back to orig BIOS, card not recognised, tried installing 8.9 drivers, vista 64bit still did not recognise it, then reflashed to modded BIOS and ran ATI Home 11, and put a Backup image on C:\, and this worked, but when tried up update drivers from 8.7 to 8.9 on this, halfway through install, the graphics card again becomes unrecognised by Vista 64bit, so not sure what the issue is....so just ran ATI Home 11 again and graphics card recognised, but with 8.7 drivers.

At the very beginning I did run the flash without uninstalling the drivers, so I would think I am paying the price for that.....

j bloggs. Uninstall the drivers completely and then restart. Run driversweeper. - http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655. Also make sure windows update doesnt automatically install the amd drivers. When it comes up, hide the update so it doesnt bother you ever again.

Then use winflash and flash your original bios from here

http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/

Then restart and install catalyst 8.9.

8.8 and 8.9 won't work with modded bioses which have not used voltages from the table shown in RBE. Forget trying to increase the overdrive limits as its very picky on which bioses some signatures works on.

Just edit the original bios to known stable overclocks.

Heres a bios I previously used if you want to take a look. It worked for me with catalyst 8.9. It has improved 2d settings with lower voltages and clocks (1.006v and 160/500). The 3d voltages are 1.158v with clocks of 720/1100.

he didn't . he used his orig BIOS and modify it

Oh, okay then. Then it must be because of the crash. Thats the risk you take with winflash. In the unlikely even your pc freezes or crashes in the flashing procedure then youll have to waste your time blind flashing. Then again winflash is a lot more convenient that atiflash.

Also 750 without a pencil/hard mod is impressive. I doubt many hd 4850s could reach that.

I did .... card appears bricked  Won`t even post. Went through flashing process and got an unrecoverable BSOD and poof, Windaz shut down.

Right, Im up the creek .... got a lappy, a pen drive. Is there anything I can do? :D
u need a pci graphic card or another pcie card if your motherboard as 2 slots then do a reflash to the 4850

OK Gareth, I`ve got my ole 8600GT in slot one, 4850 in slot 2. Haven`t installed any Nvidia drivers though ;)

I`ll go hunt out the DOS ATI flash prog Mr Paul suggests?

Hehe, fun, innit? :D Certainly not the 1st time I`ve vertically mammarised

None of the flashes failed.

However, the very first flash I did, I did NOT uninstall the drivers (the flash was successful though), and I can only think it has something to do with that.

To go straight in with a bios for untested clocks on your card is not a good idea.Find max clocks and flash a little under that imo.

Doesnt make sense if it doesnt POST. Either its a bad flash or the boot clocks are unstable. Theres no need to change the boot up clocks and voltages. edit: sorry referring to auraindingo

this is just to prove it does work..

Like I said before, not all hd4850s are stable at 750mhz with 1.21v (real). If you look at the TPU thread on this, most top out at 710-730mhz.

my mod bios's are set to stock or 680 for 3d clocks. i wouldn't set them higher because different 4850's clock less than others.

This is centainly true, I'd also like to point out the cooling on referance boards might not be able handle the extra heat generated by the increased volts/overclocks.

Hope you both get the cards back up and running soon :)

Thanks to all who helped here, especially Gareth :) All back up and running!

Mixed results, started off at 730/1130 - Tearing, temps @63° which is good. :)

720/1100 - Excellent, temps @ 62° but only yields in between an extra 2 and 4 fps compared with original bios @ 700/1080.

As ghost mentioned, some cards can`t get up to 750/1150 it seems.

In perspective though, out the box 3dmark 06 scored 12132, with 700/1080 12636 and with modded bios@720/1100 12871.

I have the same issue as you, every modded bios I've tried has ended up with the drivers failing to recognise the card.

Vista 64 with a Sapphire 4850.
