Monaco Grand Prix 2011, Monte-Carlo - Race 6/19

Meh, the Massa move, Massa was clearly going wide, think it was simply a case of Massa trying a move on Webber at, actually a split second after Hamilton made a move to pass Massa, Massa was always going to hit Webber to be honest, he never had the line to do that and Webber was already well into the corner and turning. Not really sure actually maybe Massa was reacting to Hamilton rather than following Webber.

Either way a Hamilton penalty there is ridiculous, the Maldanado one is closer to a penalty though i'd want to see it again, did Maldanado make more than one defensive move down the straight?

Thing is, what else are you supposed to do, its a horrible horrible track with current cars. Too fast through the corner and too high a top speed, its a joke racing these cars around such a ludicrous track. Its both next to impossible to overtake, insanely dangerous to overtake on most corners. Its very simply not at all safe to race F1 cars around there, and also makes for a horrifically boring race.

Find the "vettel was so lucky" talk hilarious, Button had everything go his way, not blocked much throughout, pitted into open spaces. Vettel, Webber, Hamilton all had pit stop screw ups, Webber/Hamilton got caught behind everyone all race long and Vettel, meh, I get the impression their real strategy was two super soft stints, but went for track position ahead of Button rather than catching and passing him. Strategy wise button on 35 old softs and Vettel with fresh super softs, Button was faster during one part of the race but Vettel would have been that much faster at the end.

Not quite sure why they didn't do that, I think because Button caught Vettel before their window was open and they thought slowing him up was more important, missed the first window, had to stretch the tyres so they only had one stop to make and Button caught them way to quickly.

Just watched this.

Watch the turn in point of the HRT in front and then compare with the turn in point of Maldanardo. Turned in much earlier.

Supports Hamiltons anger at being turned in upon.

Also watched the Massa incident again - he was the same distance back as Schumacher was - and Schumacher made it through as Hamilton didn't turn in on him.

Don't think it was a great race for Hamilton, but I'm not entirely sure it was as much his fault as some are making out.

I sympathise with him somewhat, he's a racing driver but in F1 whenever you try to do that the car in front can turn in on you and get you punished, I'd like to see the advantage given to the attacking driver so that the defending driver gets out of the way rather than causes an accident.

Rosberg moved out of the way for Schumacher but for most other drivers they'd rather collide than let somebody get through.

Just had a similar discussion with some mates here. Its frustrating as at the end of the day the stewards can't always necessarily make the right call.
On one hand you can accuse the overtakee to be being too aggresive, but you can also argue the defendee is being too aggresive by turning in early when there is a car on the inside?

If I think back to the days when I used to do simulation racing online it was common courtesy to not turn in on someone down your inside - you'd leave them space. But at the same time if you were on the inside knowing someone was on the outside you wouldn't run them wide. It seems that these professionals don't quite have that same sense of respect of their colleagues when racing which is surprising when you take into account they are risking their lives -rather than just their pride- when driving wheel to wheel.
