Monaco Grand Prix 2012, Monte Carlo - Race 6/20

I can't think why all the drivers are so happy to talk to Natalie Pinkham, the way that flatbed is bouncing around :D

Perez now starting from last place. Has had a gearbox change.

In 23rd is Maldonado, after his penalty for swiping Perez, and a gearbox change...

Perez out to get revenge? ;)

Kimi was signed to Ferrari 18 months before he arrived,

I was not aware of this.
My understanding was that there was a lot of media talk that if MSc retired, Kimi would go to Ferrari (for 2007). However, the move was not confirmed until MSc made his decision to retire, which was well into the 2006 season. Perhaps I have this wrong.

Alonso as well had a long term plan with Ferrari and was meant to come in 2011 but the sacking of Kimi brought that forward.

Nothing was signed or guaranteed until well into the 2009 season. Alonso arrived in 2010.

Can't imagine Red Bull would start from the pitlane even if they did think they'll get DQ'd you might as well take the risk and hope you get away with it than starting from the back here and getting 0 points!

Bit tetchy there Horner, seemed a bit defensive about the whole issue.

Classic race in 92, you look back on races from this era and the cars look huge! Big fat tyres on the back and so wide!

Sauber & Ferrari have also slots in that area of the floor. But they are open to the side of floor.

Red Bull hole fully enclosed. That's the problem.

Especially as 19/20 times they're deemd legal. There's been very few times when any disputed has resulted in an illegal car. It does happen, but it's rare.

It was signed for 2011 though as Ferrari had Kimi and Massa both under contract for 2010, they sacked Kimi to bring Alonso in quicker.

Yes. But Alonso was only confirmed, deep into the 2009 season (to join in 6 months), when Ferrari took the decision to "bench" Kimi for 2010.
He was not "confirmed" 18 months in advanced, which is effectively what might be happening with Vettel.
18 months is a heck of a long time.

Neither was Kimi confirmed until Monza 2006, but Todt confirmed the deal was done 18 months previously. Confirming the driver is not the same as when the deal is done in general.
