Monaco Grand Prix 2012, Monte Carlo - Race 6/20

what on EARTH was the car doing with no rear wing already? Weaving and blocking everyone trying to overtake him... The guy should be banned!

The missing rear wing, and chunks of diffuser was Daly's fault a few laps earlier. Just drove into the back of him and the rear wing came apart. Did it a few more times after that as well, just to make sure.

Today, Alonso has no excuse. I believe he may have the one of the best race cars on the track (at Monaco, at least).

Interested in why you keep saying that? The car is obviously not on pole and Alonso has said himself he just about maxed the car out and any hundredths gained here and there wouldn't have gained them another place?

Unless you mean they're in good shape because their race pace has been a lot better this season than their qualy pace, which is true.

you know he starts 6th on the grid right?

Was gonna say that as well. :p

From the BBC
"Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren apparently unhappy about Red Bull floor. Impending protest?"

I'm trying to find out about it.

edit=Loads on twitter about 2 slots at the rear of the floor.

No way!!!

Do you have any links to articles about this as it doesnt sound right.

Normally agreements are not made so far in advance. The only one which comes to mind is when Prost signed for Williams in late 91/early 92, to drive in 1993.

I am dubious, because Ferrari already have Alonso. Why would they need a 2nd No.1 driver?

Kimi was signed to Ferrari 18 months before he arrived, so not sure why you think driver's and teams don't have options and deals in place long before it happens? Alonso as well had a long term plan with Ferrari and was meant to come in 2011 but the sacking of Kimi brought that forward.

@tedkravitz: Other teams believe Red Bull have a hole on their floor in front of rear tyre that is illegally situated.

@tedkravitz: It would take Red Bull 2 mins to change but would mean both WEB and VET starting from pit lane. Big decision for CHorner: or are they legal?

Red Bull have used that floor since Bahrain. FIA ruled it legal then. But McLaren and Ferrari have different rule interpretation now.

I'm looking at Massa's time as the benchmark.
Sure, Alonso extracts the max out of the car, but if Massa can get a good time out of it, you know the car is decent and it isn't just Alonso having a blinder. I also, do not believe that Alonso did not have a great qualifying performance (by his high standards - look at the gap to Massa).

In general, Ferrari/Alonso are faster during the race, than in qualifying, leads me to believe that they have a race winning car, in the current Ferrari (at Monaco - considering that car performances seem to vary from track to track).

For all of the above reasons, Alonso has to be my favourite for winning this race.
