Monaco Grand Prix 2015, Monte Carlo - Race 6/19

his fiery red mist temperament seems to have mellowed a bit anyway, remember when he deliberately damaged hamilton's car coming out of la source (think it was '11)

if he got rid of the bad luck and didn't make schoolboy mistakes (like dipping it on hte grass at Oz this year) he'd be a half decent driver.

Rosberg got so much grief for last year's Monaco, he might have let Hamilton through

The edit would suggest it was Lewis's prompting to the team that made them decide to stop rather than the team telling him to. Team could have said no, but most teams will always cede to what the driver wants.

Hamilton was correct because Rosberg and Vettel said during and afterwards that the tyres went extremely cold (ergo Vettel's analogy of it being like swimming with weights on).

Also he didn't technically ask to pit (not with a broadcasted message at least); he just made a comment (albeit a panicky one) and the team seemed to make a decision based off of it.

I'm still in the camp that the team should have been like "Nah Lewis, Rosberg and Vettel are still out so we will be in the same boat. We have track position brah. See you on the top step in a few!"

TEAM: Safety car, safety car, so we're staying out.
HAM: You sure it's the best thing to stay out? These tyres have lost all their temperature, everyone's going to be on options now.
TEAM: Okay, copy, copy. Box, box.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the last time the Merc pit wall trusts Lewis on tyre calls ;):p:D

Note for the humour-impaired Lewisterical brigade on here - it's just a joke, getting uppity with me will just make me start calling him The Messiah™ again :D

Yep, staying at McLaren rather than joinging Porsche for Le Mans was inspired!

Was there actually room at Porsche for him in the end? I know Webber talked about it being a good idea, but don't know if Porsche ever officially approached JB.

Besides, we all know who the real king of bad decision making is - Freddie 'The Teflon Titan™' Alonso, with his uncanny ability to join teams at entirely the wrong time :p

I don't think there was anything seriously on the table, and if anyone had tried it seemed Button was hell bent on keeping his McLaren seat anyway.

Seeing Teflonso fail is the glimmer if humour that is making an otherwise really depressing McLaren fall from grace bearable :(.

It's one of the few highlights for me this season as well. I respect the guy's driving talent enormously, but damn is it good to see someone who has been so thoroughly unlikeable for much of his career in this position.

I enjoyed seeing Nico win. He may not have done the same job as Hamilton but he made the smarter choice (the radio message from the team said they where staying out but Hamilton changed that imo) and had managed to stay close enough the entire race to take advantage of the rookie mistake.

Hamilton has the speed and talent but not the thought processes that the likes of Button.

*waits for Hamilton believers to shoot me*

From what I watched of the race, I couldn't understand how Alonso supposedly forgot about crashing into Hulkenberg(?) and questioned the time penalty.

Jos. Max does seem like a huge talent and I hope F1 sorts itself out so we can see their talent being the deciding factor, not tyres, or <insert problem>.

Whats the link to this quoted text please, Ryan-3?

No worries, found it in the end. Thanks for the info!

McLaren didn't inform Alonso of the time penalty until he was taking it, to keep him focused on the race.
