The mercs are too fast for it to make a difference assuming they get pole. If it rains it makes zero difference. Hamilton seems very comfortable here.

I think they are trying to hype up the idea of ultra's falling off badly, from what I recall Hamilton and Rosberg were out there doing qualifying/slow/qualifying/slow and managing good times for 10-15 laps. The ultras would probably last fine, the pitstops in most Monaco races are about strategy and really don't change lap times much at all, ultras probably going to be fine to go half + race distance and pit when time is best for them.
