Monaco Grand Prix 2016, Monte Carlo - Race 6/21

Wonder if the number of warm up laps just meant Hamiltons tyres weren't quite optimal. Still, absolutely massive lap by Ricciardo and he'll be starting on the SS if it's dry. could be very interesting.

If it was old Ferrari, vets name would be, being removed on that in lap.

At least hammy up there, wonder if the tyres gave out due to number of laps.

It's Rics to lose, especially with his supersofts.

Probably that and the lack of minor adjustments, they turn the engine up further, track rubbers in a little more. You do one run at ultra pace then come in, a bit of wing, a few settings on the wheel for your second ultra pace run. Hamilton lacked that chance to do one run and tweak it, the second run is almost always faster. In general that is, track/car changes based, obviously a mistake either in setup or driving can make that second lap slower.

So will the SS strategy work? Won't the Mercs just get an undercut?

With the ultrasoft they'll stay to the back of Ricciardo, then close back up after the first pitstop with better tyres.

Ricciardo will get to attack with ultrasofts at the end, but track position is king.

Only if they get clear track, which they won't.

Its likely they will come back out among other Super Soft drivers.

I think they said he should be able to do just one stop unlike others. Not sure why though :)

Good point.

Everyone will be one stopping.

A benefit I can see is that Ricciardo can wait longer for a safety car or virtual safety car before pitting.

I guess the car will be easier on ultra softs at the end with less fuel then at the start with full tank on board so should get more laps out of them.

E: Seb really not happy today :)

E2: Lewis just said that everyone will one stop

Good qually that. Really hoping for a wettish race to spice it up completely. Start is going to be interesting with the new rules.

Did anyone watch GP2 yesterday, as mental as that was, it wasn't as mental as who I believe was David Valsecchi commentating! His voice was farrrr too high pitched!

First Renault V6 pole position :)

Errr... Not even close.

Try waaaaaaay back in 1979 with the Renault RS01 driven by Jean-Pierre Jabouille. (Isn't that one of the most french names ever? Only way it could be more french is by adding garlic, baguette or white flag to it.)

Sound quality of his mic was pretty pants, but he was ridiculously excited.

What a cracking lap by Ricciardo. A worthy pole position. Being that he will be starting the race on the Soft tyres as well he should be able to run for longer at the start of the race. If he doesn't muck up he should win easily. If it doesn't rain.

Anyone enjoy their hat snacks after Ricci got pole ahead of the Mercs? Taste like chicken?;)

As long as Ricci is not mugged off the line, the SS vs US compounds will be a little interesting.

And Metcheck suggests rain after the race starts... Roll a dice if that is the case, being able to change to wet tyres at the right time will be crucial.
