The cars back then were a lot wider than today are they not?

Here is the info on the 1992 Williams FW14B:

Dimensions:
Wheelbase: 2921 mm
Track: front: 1803 mm / rear: 1676 mm
Gearbox weight: 50 kg
Chassis weight (tub): 50 kg
Formula weight: 505 kg
Fuel capacity: 230 litres

Looking at the techincal regulations for this year:

  • The overall width of a car, excluding tyres, must not exceed 2,000mm.
  • The length, height and shape of the car are effectively governed by other specific parameters. For example, bodywork between the front and rear wheel centre lines must not be more than 1,600mm wide.
  • In order to prevent tyre damage to other cars, certain pieces of bodywork (such as front wing endplates) must be at least 10mm thick.
  • No part of the car can be more than 950mm in height.

Blimey, just watched some of the Indy 500 qualifying. Alonso doing very well, but a driver after him had the most violent smash into the wall at over 200mph, causing some of the car to go up in flames.

Gave it a 1/10 but only because there isn't a 0/10 option. As expected that was a crap non-race. Was there even a single on track overtake? That idiot Croft even tries talking up the Monaco carnival procession!! I do wish they would get rid of this race but they never will because of the money. It was obvious that Ferrari would favour Vettel with Mercedes struggling, even this early in the season. Let's hope Canada will be better.

Williams really are ddw

Its been better than last season. At least we have a fight between two teams instead of an inter-team battle.

Having a points fight, which essentially has nothing to do with racing is better than having actual racing on track and just ignore which position and point it's for? Really?

Take the fight between Hamilton and Rosberg in Bahrain in 2014, what if that was for 5th and 6th and Ferrari won that season by 700 points, was that on track battle rubbish because it wasn't for first?

We watch a race, points and championships are the result of races but not what you actually watch when you watch a race for two hours.

THe absolutely awful thing was that there was on track passes here, almost none but they happened, Perez I think had three, though the last was a bit of a smash and grab. He passed Stroll, they barely mentioned it and they didn't show it at all. The two later came because under safety car Perez had the gap to pit so put on fresh tires, he passed Vandoorne easily but due to the weird track issue it caused Van to go out, entirely not Perez's fault though, he got fairly alongside and was first into the corner. The shunt into Kvyat, people do overtake there, the door was kinda open but it was a stupid move.

The only genuine overtake was the Perez and Stroll and they managed to miss it, pathetic from race directors again. Whoever got hired this year needs to be fired.

If Monaco was turned into a time trial event, rather than racing, I think it would be much more spectator friendly.

Split the field into at least two groups, send a car out do do "x" number of laps every few seconds (spreading each group out equally).

Racing 2m wide F1 cars at Monaco in its current form... Duller than the dullest dishwater ever seen by man or beast.

Vettel has this wrapped up.

Every year people give up straight away and write it off. It's like they never learn.

Anyway, don't have an issue with Ferrari's orders, it's why Kimi is employed as he's more than 10 years past his sell by date. He can win if Vettel is out. For the same reason Bottas was employed and would be moving aside as needed because they clearly didn't want another Lewis and X issue. Trouble is Ferrari are in the mix and Lewis is having a few off weeks. You can bet Lewis wouldn't have moved aside like Bottas did had the roles been reversed, he would have told the team he needed to pass himself if he was faster as he has before. It will be utterly hilarious to watch if Lewis becomes the one to have to move over.

I rather like Vettel again after a few years off the top step.

Dull race as predicted, shame they couldn't tweak the layout or do something different within the space such as getting rid of the drain but before the hairpin, could open up an opportunity there for example. The barriers over the years have made it narrower as well now too.

One of the worst races I've watched. How many on track passes where there?

The track lure is that drivers are on the edge and close to the barriers. This is true for quali but in the race, they could driver 5 seconds slower and the car behind couldn't pass.

This track should not host an f1 race.

A couple of crashes didn't even brighten up the race
