I think tracks like Monaco were fine for racing 80 years ago but it doesn't suit modern F1 racing and is more a weekend jolly for the rich and famous.

Well you can't change the tracks, so obviously the only option is to change the cars.

Set new rules, maximum width of a car, measured from widest part of the car outside to outside of wheels, with anything aerodynamic (wings front and rear mainly) set at a maximum 50% of overall car width.

Also set maximum length to 33% to 50% of current.

Then we would get overtakes and competitive racing on every track.

It's just part of the challenge of winning the F1 championship. You have races with big straights, wide tracks, with easier overtaking, and a few where it is harder!
Monaco places almost all of its emphasis on the Sat result and strategy, and it's all just part of the overall skill-set required to win.

How many other tracks are "rubbish for racing" though? You've got other tracks like Barcelona, Abu Dhabi and Russia where the standard of racing on same strategy non accident events are just as dull, yet Monaco has thrown up a different podium featuring Ferrari and McLaren, Merc struggled but Red Bull were still on form.

It might have been a dull race but it's opened up the championship and is building drama, exactly what F1 needs over a whole season. If we want better racing, change the cars, not the tracks. Monaco is still fun to watch to see drivers on the limits between physical barriers. The support races had accidents where drivers misjudged the space available.

^^ This guy gets it!!

I think this is a fair point. Monaco may not deliver the most exiting race but it's existence changes the complexion of the championship. It's another reason the ever increasing size of the championship calendar is a problem, it dilutes the importance of each race and lowers the need to perform at every race.

Monaco should be dropped but never will. It's a frustration that we have to live with as F1 fans, because money talks.
I agree that the cars have become too large and clumsy at lower speed. The Mercs seem the most hurt by circuits favouring more mechanical grip. They are highly dependent on high speed, high aero tracks, which to be fair favours the majority of F1 circuits over the whole season. Monaco is a lottery. Max will likely have at least one DNF himself just by the type of driver he is, it's just whether he takes Hamilton out as well when he does.

This, 100%.

I’m pretty
33% of current length would leave them shorter than karts wouldn't it? :D

Pretty sure the way the drive lie down in the cars, they take up 33% of the current length. Clearly only one thing for it then - pedas cars. Turn the Settringham cup in to a championship.

The Mercedes debrief video is as interesting as ever:

The description of what happened to Bottas' wheel nut starts at 7:08.

I agree with this point 100%, however no matter how much you change the cars Monaco will never, and has never, produced good racing in an open-wheel, aero-reliant, formula. Shocks and surprises, sure, but never good wheel to wheel racing.

Really hoping the 2022 spec cars will have better racing at Monaco but if they're just as wide and long then it doesn't matter how close you can follow on a track so narrow and twisty

That would make the cars shorter than an Issigonis Mini. I think your dimensions need a bit more thought.

Why?

Have you watched mini's racing, three or four abreast into corners, absolutely brilliant racing.

That's exactly what we want in F1 not processions.
