I remember Williams gambled on slicks in 1997. Went backwards impressively quickly until being forced to admit defeat, although Frentzen had already crashed out with Hill I think it was. 1996 Verstappen gambled on slicks and crashed at turn 1, lap 1 (although forced off by a McLaren rather than crashed on his own).

Ricciardo pit radio - Daniel, switches for these tyres. Youre currently in silver entry 9, so that's good for the intermediates. We have green shape 5 which is our wet brake shape. I suggest we go to that now. The left hand toggle will still work correctly, so if you're worried about front locking that can still be used.

Ricciardo - Ok gotcha. So green shape 5, now says 55.5?

Pit - Yup, that is correct.
