depends what you want, omegas aren't as good an allrounder really, they're too wafty, but I see what you mean :]

My st24 has been a great car, had it a couple of years now and its still going strong with 112k on the clock. Things to watch out for I would say is the water pump needing changed, alternator needing replaced, IMRC and water in the boot (light cluster seals or broken/leaking bott catch). These are all things I've go wrong with mine. Apart from that its a great car to drive and handles really well. Since this is turning into a Mondeo porn thread I couldn't resist

they seem to use much higher quality materials after being in a few early mk2s as well. Oh yea, different steering wheel too
V6's suffer from a few probs.
The first to change and it is an absolute MUST is the water pump. Std one comes with plastic impeller which can break up, most after market ones are metal and are pretty cheap and easy to change.
H/G issue, mainly caused by above, sounds like blown exhuast manifold as cylinder leaks to atmos, as the cyls are close to the edge.
Alternator, common on V6's and a proper pain to change, tell-tale is when light comes on at high revs.
IMRC- as aboce Inlet Manifold Runner Control. The V6 has two inlets per cylinder, one operates up to 3200rpm the the other is opened so both operated above 3200rpm. Problem is, if the car isn't "used" the secondaries (above 3200) remain closed and get gummed up and they do need cleaned (carb cleaner and toothbrush!) Alos the control box (under black plastic trim with "Duratec" script) can suffer from heat soak form front manifold and stop operating *** secondary mechanism.
Hatches do have a boot leak problem, due to the seals on the rear lamps
Yes ST200's are much more expensive, but they are much more exclusive

RSAP or not. I just have to say it - MK2 Mondeos are so ugly they make my Primera pretty, and god knows - the P11.144 makes little babies cry every time I drive back home. Plus Ford never had a luck with interiors, even mk3 looks dated and like it was picked radomly from a basket with blindfold on. The more I look at it, the more it strikes me. The spec is there, the price is there, handling there.. slightly badly designed but cheap enough to throw away and yet one look at it and it's like... picking up a girl in a bar after few pints and waking up in the morning next to Jade Gooding....

I have owned a early and a late MK2, and the dash was definately a better plastic/foamy composite on the later models.

I currently have a ST200 estate possibly even rarer that the limited edition saloon model that Jamous had.
I've had it over a year now and the first couple of things I had done was changing the waterpump for one with metal impellors (the stock one's have plastic impellors which are commonly knows to break off and cause the engine to overheat) and secondly I had a full service on it, at 44K with FFSH it was about time for one and I wanted to make sure it was all ok.
Since then it's had a new set of Goodyear Eagle F1's, some clear side repeators, I've replaced all the standard door speakers with some Pioneer's (which sound so much better!) changed the headlight bulbs for some pure white ones, changed the standard paper panel air filter for a K&N panel filter, and had a interim service last week which was due after 12 months, fluid changes etc...and a new rear engine mount (torque restrictor) which was worn, a common trait of the V6's due to the torque going through the front wheels.
Apart from that I am VERY happy with the car, it looks good, its very comfortable to drive even with the harder suspension, it goes like stink (although I think my IMRC needs changing which are £120 at most Ford dealerships) and best of all is the sound when you give it some
I don't intend on selling her yet due to me loving the car, I've also never seen another one in all the time I've owned it and before as a matter of fact.
I'm so impressed with the ST's that my next car will be an ST220, after considering the Evo's and the likes of the Focus ST-3 the ST220 has got my vote
If I had the choice of buying a V6 Ghia, ST24 or the ST200 few a extra £££'s I'd take the ST200 all the time!
