Hi,I recently posted about fallout 4 and my trusty 7950s. Basically I was told they should run the game ok. At the time that good to hear but I've just been give a gift of £500 by my in laws to as they said treat yourself.
Right I was looking at a new graphics card so basically I need you lot out there who know a lot more than me to basically tell me what's the best for me.
Right I only play my games on a 144hz 27" 1080pAsus monitor.
Possibly would go up to 1440 in the future but not now .
So I really need something that will play games at a good detail level and would last need hopefully a couple of years. I don't see myself going crossfire or sli again so it would be a single card only option. I'm open to both nvidia or Amd . If possible would be nice to come in under budget for a new ssd as well. The reason I don't want to choose myself is I would probably spend all the cashon something that far exceeds what I actually need. Many thanks and I can't wait to blow the cash.....lol

Well its 980ti money.

Im in a similar situation but not sure its a good idea with Pascal around the corner. I think I can survive using 7970 until march. Its not like there are any new and exciting good looking games until then anyway:P

I think the Fury (none X) is the best bet to last as AMD cards seem to give good performance for a long time. The R9 390 is the best value card but think most will recommend the 980Ti at the £500 price point.

Thanks guys.....This might sound daft but was hoping people would offer some different ideas to the 980ti it probably is a cracking card but would it be too overkill for my set up and I don't see me changing much else in the near future...If my Mrs got her way I would be getting a ps4 but that's not going to happen...

Fury non X and get SW Battlefront thrown in, there has been some success with unlocking the Asus Strix version to full fat Fury X.

Money left over for your SSD too.

I will be very surprised if pascal is out before April so it's a 5 month wait or 4 months at very best and won't surprise me if 6 months.

You could wait for pascal

Yes I know but if I'm honest if I don't upgrade now I know the money will probably get spent on something else that the Mrs can find that she really doesn't need. Also it might sound daft but I'm the type that once I've upgraded I don't take any interest in new hardware until I need it so if I do upgrade now as long as it lasts I will be quite happy.

Nothing is overkill even a 980ti at 1080p isn't overkill. However for less money the gtx 970 is decent enough. The gtx 980 is a bit of an odd card and should be bought second hand only. If I were you I would buy a used 980ti and take the Mrs out for a meal with what change is left.

Well if you have £500 to burn then a 980ti will be the only choice I guess. Either that or Fury X but people don't seem to favour it.

Overkill or not it spends your money nicely.

980ti really is the best option but if you wanted something different then the other options are all in AMD's court as far as I can see. Fury / 390 are great cards, they both can leave a tiny bit of spare money should you want anything other than just a graphics card and will still offer good performance for a fair while since the fury's aren't that much lower (at stock) than the 980ti but just lack the overclocking headroom of course.

Then I would get either a 390 or a Fury.

The way drivers have been going for the Fury lately I would probably choose that.

why waste all that money on one thing, sure theres other things you would like :)

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £366.48
(includes shipping: £10.50)

or get a 780 version if you wanted to save a little

GTX 970 not even get close to Small Pascal.

If the OP buys a 980 Ti now he will get performance that is not too far away from Small Pascal when it turns up in 6 months time.

Well you could get 2x 390s if you don't mind going back to crossfire, that would be notably faster than a single Fury X or 980ti. also pretty "future proof" at 1080p and also 1440p should you upgrade in a year or two. I'm sure you know about crossfires limitations, profiles etc.

I only skimmed the replies, so sorry if this has already been addressed :)
