Monzo/Starling Banking/Revolut

I take it that I have to wait for the direct debits to be taking before setting up a DD pot, as once they're taken the amounts will be populated?

As soon as they appear in the scheduled tab you can select them and point at a pot. They will appear before they come out.

And do I have to manually enter the amount I want in the pot? I guess I'll have to wait for payday to put the amounts in the pot itself.

Nope, the full amount will be taken from the pot, you just have to make sure there is enough in there otherwise it comes from your main balance.

I get the impression that the first couple of months will be a bit of a learning curve while I work out what to put in the bill pot when I get paid. I'm hoping that once the app 'learns' how much each DD is expected to be that it will help me out in that respect.

It does, the pot will report "left to pay" between the dates you specify as your month. For me it's 24th - 25th as I get paid on the 25th usually.

I'll just manually put in what I know will be going out plus a bit more each month. It'll be easy enough to work out looking at the First Direct app for the start of this month.

Oh, this is very impressive. I did an online purchase and I got an approval thing come up on the app where I had to approve and then enter my PIN. Love it.

Feek this is banking of the future for sure. I know people who are now moving away from mainstream banking to be with these new companies. I can see a big downfall of customers for high street banking for sure.

I have opened a monzo and starling and revolut to test the features out on all new apps. I am a fan of monzo for their app progression as it stands.

I love the starling bank card though! :)

Switch almost complete, I can see a payment from work for expenses showing as pending and I've not changed my work details yet. Also a pending direct debit is showing as well as the remaining balance from First Direct has been sent over. All very slick and I'm really enjoying the app.

Didn't we kick the switch off on the same day? I'm surprised yours didn't complete yesterday as well. I have sent my new bank details through to work so they should have updated their records but even if they haven't, there's a three year period where anything paid to the old account will come through anyway.

It really is. I didn't expect that and was very impressed.

EDIT: With Revolut you can now get a metal card like Apple;
That doesn't interest me in the slightest, I so rarely use the card that it'd just sit in my wallet, bending itself in the shape of my bum.
Pretty sure I did it a day later, it's always been today as the switch date.
I've looked back in the thread and you posted on the same day as me but at 16:04 so probably too late to start the transfer process that day.
