Why are stupid little 50cc mopeds allowed to use dual carriageway?

I had the dubious pleasure of trying to join a fast moving, busy dual carriageway today at 25mph after following a stupid, underpowered wheezy moped up the sliproad. He just couldn't get any speed up the hill at all and stayed in the middle of the sliproad regardless making it impossible for anyone to get past.

Joining the carriageway at 25mph was VERY hairy!

They are banned from Motorways, isn't it about time we banned them from anything bar inner city useage?

You think thats bad, I had to join a motorway at just over 15mph today behind some woman in a honda civic......now THAT was interesting!
She just looked at me as though I was some speed freak going ballistic behind her on the slip road.

I know what you mean though, perhaps mopeds that cant make reasonable progress should be forced to stick to slower roads.

After all if you can fail your driving test for taking 5 seconds to long at a junction and therefore "delaying other motorists" what do these do?

It might have changed, but when I last read the highway code you could take a mobility sooter on a dual carriageway if you fitted with a flashing orange light.

What the hell is that about?

Around the Milton Keynes dual carrigeways they are just insane. I can join one of these roads seconds from my house and get up to 70+ in seconds, even in my rubbish car. These scooters will take all day and still be dog slow. I think it's a combination of not only being stupidly slow, but also such limited 'training' via the CBT that makes them so dangerous.

Ban them altogether I say. The only people I see riding them around here are tracksuit wearing teens with L plates weaving all over the place or riding them in packs, thinking they own the road. A danger to themselves and other road users. I don't think Ive ever seen one being ridden responsibly.

Also, they have the be the most annoying sounding device ever invented.

Edit: OK, I didn't really mean ban altogether, that was a knee-jerk reaction. They can be useful when use properly and are ideal in the city. But a bunch of chavs who think they are Hell's Angels because they've got a moped with about as much power as a hair-drier seems to be insane around here.

We have a stupid ammount of recoveries after numpties who have had the basic CBT training and are allowed to use duel carraigeways.. they shouldnt be allowed imo..

I remember the days of my 50cc. I was lucky since mine could do like 60 but it was slightly modified :D .

Come to think of it why are they allowed on the duals. If you are 16 then you are legally bound to be restricted to 30mph. Sounds a bit dangerous doing 30 on a road were just about everything is doing 60-70 MPH.

You'd have to be stupid to take a bike that can't do the speed limit onto an A road. Anything over a 30 limit on a 50cc is suicide. It's bad enough on my 125 which can do about 65-70 flat out on a NSL road, most of the traffic is going between 70 and 80.

You'll hear no argument from me on the matter. Its dangerous for both them and other motorists IMO.

I have one I'm 2 years too young to own a car (have to be 18), N
ow I dont care puttign myself in danger tbh, i mean i prefer to avoid dangerous situations but they dont bother me and i don't know why anyone but me and my parents should have anything to say about my own safety, I don't put others in danger as I'm driving on cycle roads usually and slow down when passign cyclists. ( wich is legal here in the NL, drivign on cycle paths i mean and theres loads of cycle paths here.)

Can't drive faster as 40 mph with it ( actually 30 mph here but i have a removed limiter ) but its a hell of a lot better than stupid cycling or walking as thats way too slow, and a moped/scooter is the only motorized option for a 16 year old.

As for dual carriegeways, hardly have em here in the nl, usually motorways or single carriegeways here, but not allowed to go on them with a moped.

At the same time you can ban the dithering octogenarians who are happy to crawl down the slip road at 30mph only to come to a stop at the end with traffic passing at 70-80mph and no room left to accelerate.

I came up behind a mobility scooter on a twisty b road, coming round a corner at about 50mph, that was interesting

Yeah I know mates who got their 50cc peds to go 80 mph by modding them like crazy and they used the motorways anyway, not sure if they were banned back then but still.
I think the government should allow 125's at 16 and there wouldn't be so much of a problem.

If that happened, I thing I'd join the coffin making industry! The way some of them ride their twist & go's would kill them on anything bigger.

Mopeds **** me right off. It's not just their complete lack of anything resembling acceleration, or their inappropriate use on roads that are simply designed for >40mph, but it's the noise.

An angry hornet in a fight with a hair-dryer is what they sound like. I would love a plough fitted to my car to just ram them off the road and into the pavement.

Yes they are very dangerous indeed, Fully agree with banning them from dual carriageways, there banned from motorways. Dual carriageways and Motorways arn't a world apart so its beyond me why they are allowed on there. As for the bike in the centre of the road, at CBT trainees are taught to stay in the middle of the road rather than moving to the left, this was what I was taught, yet if i sensed someone wanted to overtake I would give them plenty of room.

Why are they allowed on the roads at all?

Anytime I see one, its got some tool on it being a complete ****, while simultaneously attempting to deafen me.

Its as if they're simply designed to cause road rage.
