edit: I have no input as I have never ridden a moped or 125 road bike lol. Only ever a PW80, track ninja or a Ducati 748 lol. But I am only 22 you say! Crazy!!!!!

Go ride more bikes! :p
Ive got a big single and a powerfull two stroke left on my list of things to ride, other than something like a Desmo but I doubt that is going to happen :(

Riding mopeds is an interesting experience everyone should experience once, just so you can say for yourself they should not be on the road! wobbly little things with no ground clearance :D
Personally I waited until I was 17 to get a 125 but I rode my sisters scooter years later.

OP if I were you I'd just go for it, get a cheapish second hand 50cc moped, and then sell it if you pass your test. 50ccs don't tend to lose much in value if you don't buy brand new.

What do you call a big single? If it's 640+ then you'll love it (Actually even if it's less you'll love it). Ragging about on a 450 single puts as big a grin on my face as riding a sports bike. (Just remember that comfort or touring are things it won't do too well).

Yeah don't buy Chinese.. ugh, nasty nasty nasty things.... knocked up by some peasent worker in a factory in which the word 'standards' doesn't not exist.

Lastly, on to the gear! Your clothing isn't something you want to go cheap on, especially the helmet! 'Shark', 'AGV' etc are really good helmet manufacture that offer great pieces of kit for a good x amount of money, so have a look and see what you like.

Don't be silly, everyone knows the standard safety gear for moped riders are white nike trainers, nylon tracksuit bottoms, and a cotton adidas hoody ;)

Seems to be round here anyways, lol.

I'm sure the majority of the muppets would ride around without a helmet given the choice.

Not that I'm saying the OP is anything like those, just they seem to be the majority who subsequently tar every moped rider with that image.

If you can get a 2nd hand Aprillia RS50, you'd be able to sell it for not much less after you're 17 and you'd be the coolest 16yr old around..

Don't look at the initial outlay, but look on the resale value.

Yea something 600+ Never ridden one! Not to own just to ride, I love my sportsbikes too much to move away yet :p

No you can't lol.

Well lets see, doing some rough calculations, if it can manage around 100MPG and a gallon is roughly equal to 4.5l, and petrol is say £1.20/l then it would cost £5.40 to travel 100 miles - £10.80 for 200. Close enough? ;)

Thing is though, would you want to travel 200 miles if you're not allowed on motorways? If you did pass a full test and got the restricter taken off then according to the DVLA it would no longer be a moped - would this mean that you would then be allowed on motorways?

There's a good moped garage near Morrisons in Byker, well...it's near the Cumberland Arms if we're using Pubs for directions...

WAIT - You're only 16. Just wait, a moped in Newcastle is a stupid idea.

I was getting 90 mpg from my 125 Varadero so I can only imagine a 50cc to be better

One of my mates picked up a FS1E recently in a dark red colour, it's absolutely mint and looks lovely, in his case buying the bike he first owned.

Not sure on how well it'd perform though!
